Am J Dent

December 2024

Department of Restorative Sciences, Division of Operative Dentistry and Biomaterials, University of North Carolina, Adams School of Dentistry, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA,

Purpose: To evaluate and compare: (1) the effect of the bacterial biofilm on the dentin mineral density at the restoration-tooth interface and (2) the mineralization potential of three resin-based restorative materials (RBRM).

Methods: 16 extracted human molars free of caries and cracks were collected and stored for disinfection. Each tooth received two standardized Class II preparations with the cervical margin placed in dentin.

Background/objectives: Tooth whitening is a cosmetic dental treatment that improves the color of natural teeth, making them whiter and brighter; this review aimed to evaluate the greater effectiveness of in-office, at-home, and combined bleaching with hydrogen or carbamide peroxide, also in relation to possible relapses and side effects (tooth sensitivity).

Methods: A literature search has been carried out through electronic databases, PubMed/MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library, focused on the use of the effectiveness of in-office, at-home, and combined dental bleaching. This review has been registered on PROSPERO (ID613248).

Non-invasive procedure implementation for enhanced smile facial muscle movement after orthognathic surgery: a case report.

Anat Cell Biol

December 2024

Division in Anatomy and Developmental Biology, Department of Oral Biology, Human Identification Research Institute, BK21 FOUR Project, Yonsei University College of Dentistry, Seoul, Korea.

This study examined the case of 27-year-old female who underwent orthognathic surgery to correct class 3 malocclusion, resulting in an unnatural smile. The research aimed to assess the efficacy of non-invasive treatment in enhancing facial muscle movement during smiling to achieve a natural smile. The patient received eight sessions of treatment using non-invasive devices, and facial assessment were conducted using three-dimensional scanner (Morpheus 3D Scanner) to evaluate facial features in both relaxed and maximum smile states pre- and post-treatment.

Roadmap to Innovation of HTA Methods (IHTAM): insights from three case studies of quantitative methods.

Int J Technol Assess Health Care

November 2024

Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology, Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences, Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Article Synopsis
  • The Innovation of Health Technology Assessment Methods (IHTAM) framework was developed to improve how health technology assessments (HTA) are conducted but needed real-world evaluation.
  • The framework was applied to three case studies, and feedback from stakeholders indicated it improved collaboration but suggested the need for a structured roadmap for better applicability.
  • A 48-item roadmap was created to offer tailored guidance and actionable steps, encouraging future use of the IHTAM framework among stakeholders for method innovation in HTA.
