Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how different chemical surface treatments affect the bond strength between acrylic teeth and denture bases.
  • Three groups were tested: a control group with no treatment, one treated with monomethyl methacrylate monomer, and another treated with acetone, with shear bond strength measured for each.
  • Results indicated that acetone treatment provided the strongest bond (183.21 N), followed by monomethyl methacrylate (171.64 N) and the control group (149.32 N), highlighting acetone's effectiveness in enhancing adhesion in dental prosthetics.

Introduction Fixed prosthodontic solutions for restorations of multiple implants are often done using acrylic-metal hybrid prosthesis. These restorations have a high failure rate due to poor bond strength between metal and acrylic, despite using digital attachments and primers. This study has been done to demonstrate an economical yet effective method of increasing shear bond strength between acrylic and metal.

Article Synopsis
  • Traditional denture base resins have been in use for over 150 years, but new resins offer better customization and fit; however, research on their cleaning effectiveness is lacking.
  • The study involved creating specimens of various materials and testing their cleansibility after biofilm formation with Candida using different cleansing methods.
  • Results showed colonization levels and cleansing effectiveness were compared across specimen groups and statistical analyses revealed significant differences among the efficiencies of denture cleansers.
