Article Synopsis
  • Primary atopic disorders (PAD) are rare genetic conditions caused by specific gene variants that affect skin and immune function, making diagnosis challenging among common allergic disease cases.
  • Identifying PAD requires recognizing clinical red flags like family history and unusual infections, as conventional lab tests are inadequate for definitive diagnosis.
  • Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) enhances diagnostic efficiency and accuracy, but requires careful interpretation and collaboration among specialists to effectively manage PAD cases.

Assessing delayed penicillin hypersensitivity using the PENFAST+ score.

Front Allergy

November 2023

Médecine Sorbonne Université, Service de dermatologie et d'allergologie, Hôpital Tenon, Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), Paris, France.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to improve the performance of the PEN-FAST score, particularly for those with delayed hypersensitivity (HS), by improving the negative predictive value.

Article Synopsis
  • Pompholyx and eczematous skin reactions are known adverse effects of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) infusions, but their detailed clinical characteristics and management remain under-researched.
  • A study analyzing 27 cases of delayed skin reactions after IVIg infusions revealed that most patients were male, primarily had neurological conditions, and experienced the most common reaction, palmoplantar pompholyx, within an average of 11 days post-infusion.
  • The findings indicated that severe reactions often required hospitalization, were more frequent in males receiving high doses, and relapses occurred frequently, especially after reintroduction of the same IVIg product.
