The design of highly efficient supramolecular architectures that mimic competent natural systems requires a comprehensive knowledge of noncovalent interactions. Halogen bonding is an excellent noncovalent interaction that forms halogen-halogen (X) as well as trihalogen interacting synthons. Herein, we report the first observation of a symmetric radial assembly of chromophores ( R3̅ c space group) composed of a stable hexabromine interacting synthon (Br) that further push the limits of our understanding on the nature, role, and potential of noncovalent halogen bonding. Contrary to the destabilization proposed for Type-I X interactions, Br-synthon-possessing Type-I X interactions exhibit a stabilizing nature owing to the exchange-correlation component. The radial assembly of chromophores is further strengthened by intermolecular through-space charge transfer interaction. Br-synthon-driven 3-fold symmetric radial assembly render a lattice structure that reminisces the chromophoric arrangement in the light harvesting system 2 of purple bacteria.

Monolayer assembly of charged colloidal particles at liquid interfaces opens a new avenue for advancing the additive manufacturing of thin film materials and devices with tailored properties. In this study, we investigated the dynamics of electrosprayed colloidal particles at curved droplet interfaces through a combination of physics-based computational simulations and machine learning. We employed a novel mesh-constrained Brownian dynamics (BD) algorithm coupled with Ansys® electric field simulations to model the transport and assembly of charged particles on a non-spherical droplet surface.

Herein, we discuss the structure-function of biomimetic imidazole-quartet substrates (I-quartets) obtained through the adaptive self-assembly of octyl-ureido-polyol structures in polyamide membranes designed as adsorbents. Molecular dynamics (MD) and well-tempered metadynamics simulations are utilized to examine ion contaminants' adsorption process and dynamic behaviors onto alkylureido-ethylimidazoles with well-defined supramolecular structures. Moreover, the atoms-in-molecules (AIM) analysis identified multiple types of atomic interactions between the contaminant molecules and the substrates.

Deciphering roles of nine hydrophobins (Hyd1A-F and Hyd2A-C) in the asexual and insect-pathogenic lifecycles of Beauveria bassiana.

Hydrophobins are small amphiphilic proteins that confer filamentous fungal hydrophobicity needed for hyphal growth, development, dispersal and adhesion to host and substrata. In insect-pathogenic Beauveria bassiana, nine hydrophobins (class I Hyd1A-F and class II Hyd2A-C) were proven to localize on the cell walls of aerial hyphae and conidia but accumulate in the vacuoles and vesicles of submerged hyphae and blastospores, respectively. Conidial hydrophobicity, adhesion to insect cuticle, virulence via normal cuticle infection and dispersal potential were significantly more reduced by the hyd1A deletion leading to complete ablation of slender rodlets on conidial coat than the hyd1B deletion, which caused a failure to assemble morphologically irregular rodlets into orderly bundles.

Spherical nucleic acids (SNAs) consist of DNA strands arranged radially and packed densely on the surface of nanoparticles. Due to their unique properties, which are not found in naturally occurring linear or circular DNA, SNAs have gained widespread attention in fields such as sensing, nanomedicine, and colloidal assembly. The rapidly evolving applications of SNAs have driven a modernization of their syntheses to meet different needs.

Purpose: A triple lumen iteration of the novel photo-angioplasty drug eluting balloon catheter (DEBc) Lumi-Solve may be compromised by guidewire shadow (GWS)-mediated attenuation of balloon surface drug activation. The current study aimed to design and evaluate a novel triple lumen prototype, designated Lumi-Solve-T, to circumvent these issues.

Methods: Effects of guidewire shadowing (GWS) on vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation was evaluated using the MTT assay.
