On 23 April 1895, the Berlin ENT medical specialist Alfred Kirstein performed the first direct examination of the larynx using a Casper esophagoscope equipped with electric lighting, which he called an "autoscope". The examination of the larynx, which had previously only been possible indirectly using mirror systems, was named by him "autoscopy". The development of the device enabled a more precise observation than before and laryngeal or tracheal foreign bodies could be removed better and more easily.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and patient satisfaction of outpatient partial parotidectomies in a French university hospital, addressing the lack of national data on such procedures amidst a push for increased ambulatory surgeries.
Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted, involving patients undergoing partial parotidectomy for non-malignant tumors from March 2021 to May 2023. Inclusion was based on surgical, medical, and social criteria.

Cyclic oligomeric depsipeptides (COD) are a structural class within naturally occurring compounds with a wide range of biological activity. Verticilide is a COD (24-membered ring) that was identified by its inhibition of insect ryanodine receptor (RyR). We have since found that the enantiomer of verticilide (-verticilide, ) is a potent inhibitor of mammalian RyR2, a cardiac calcium channel, and therefore a potential antiarrhythmic agent.
