Complexes of atropine, homatropine, scopolamine, and ipratropium with cyclodextrins were investigated by NMR and capillary electrophoresis. It has been demonstrated that tropane alkaloids form complexes with β- and γ-cyclodextrins of 1:1 stoichiometry. NMR measurements indicate the formation of complexes where both aliphatic and aromatic parts of tropane alkaloids interact with β-cyclodextrin. The stability constants of the investigated alkaloids with β- and γ-cyclodextrins were determined by capillary electrophoresis. It has been found that β-cyclodextrin forms ten times more stable complexes than γ-cyclodextrin. Moreover, the analysis of the obtained crystal structure of β-cyclodextrin/(-)-hyoscyamine complex reveals that two molecules of (-)-hyoscyamine oriented in head-to-tail mode are tightly fitted inside head-to-head β-cyclodextrin dimer. Conformation of (-)-hyoscyamine as well as scopolamine changes substantially upon complexation adapting to the cavity of β-cyclodextrin as shown by X-ray analysis, NMR and DFT calculations data.

Anatoxin-a (ATX-a) is a cyanotoxin whose toxicological profile has been underinvestigated in comparison to other cyanotoxins such as microcystins (MCs) or cylindrospermopsin (CYN). However, its wide distribution, occurrence, and toxic episodes justify more attention. It is classified as a neurotoxin, but it has also been reported to affect other organs and systems.

Background: A dual-syndrome hypothesis, which states the cognitive impairments in Parkinson's disease (PD) are attributable to frontostriatal dopaminergic dysregulation and cortical disturbance-each associated with attention/executive and memory/visuospatial dysfunction, respectively-has been widely accepted. This multisystem contribution also underlies highly heterogeneous progression rate to dementia.
Methods: Nondemented PD patients who underwent [I]N-ω-fluoropropyl-2β-carbomethoxy-3β-(4-iodophenyl) nortropane ([I]FP-CIT) SPECT and neuropsychological examinations were enrolled.
We describe a case of profound bradyarrhythmia after sugammadex administration during ambulatory anesthesia. The patient was a 21-year-old man with autism spectrum disorder undergoing planned general anesthesia for dental treatment. After treatment completion, sugammadex was administered upon awakening, and sudden bradyarrhythmia appeared immediately.

Numerous experimental studies suggest the potential for resveratrol (RVT) to be useful in the Alzheimer's disease treatment, but its low bioavailability limits its application. This study aimed to assess the potential of resveratrol-loaded micelles as a neuronal delivery platform to protect rats from scopolamine-induced memory impairment. Resveratrol was incorporated into Pluronic micelles, and the effects of micellar (mRVT) and pure resveratrol (RVT) were compared in the model of scopolamine-induced dementia in male Wistar rats.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) has long proven to be a complex neurodegenerative disorder, with cholinergic dysfunction, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation being just a few of its pathological features. The complexity of the disease requires a multitargeted treatment covering its many aspects. In the present investigation, an arylhydrazone derivative of 5-methoxyindole-2-carboxylic acid (5MeO), with in vitro strong antioxidant, neuroprotective and monoamine oxidase B-inhibiting effects, was studied in a scopolamine-induced Alzheimer-type dementia in rats.
