Fourier ptychographic microscopy (FPM), simply replacing the traditional light source of a microscope with a LED array, can obtain high resolution and large field of view images simultaneously. A symmetrical LED illumination FPM is presented to improve the quality of high resolution images for defocus or thick samples in this paper. It is proven theoretically that symmetrical LED illumination had higher defocus tolerance than that of single LED illumination at first. Then, it is confirmed that symmetrical LED illumination FPM has better low-resolution images and reconstruction effect for defocus samples than that of single LED illumination by simulated and experimental results. Compared with the single illumination FPM, it is demonstrated that the depth of field of symmetrical FPM is more than doubled.

Photodynamic inactivation (PDI) has been revealed as a valuable approach against viral infections because of the fast therapeutic effect and low possibility of resistance development. The photodynamic inhibition of the infectivity of human herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) strain Victoria at different stages of its reproduction was studied. PDI activity was determined on extracellular virions, on the stage of their adsorption to the Madin-Darby bovine kidney (MDBK) cell line and inhibition of the viral replication stage by application of two tetra-methylpyridiloxy substituted gallium and zinc phthalocyanines (ZnPcMe and GaPcMe) upon 660 nm light exposure with a light-emitting diode (LED 660 nm).

Among the physical decontamination methods, treatment with ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a suitable means of preventing viral infections. Mercury vapor lamps (254 nm) used for room decontamination are potentially damaging to human skin (radiation) and harmful to the environment (mercury). Therefore, other UV-C wavelengths (100-280 nm) may be effective for virus inactivation on skin without damaging it, e.

Background: This study aims to illuminate the role of perceived crisis responsibility in shaping vaccination intention. By using the case of Hong Kong during the COVID-19 pandemic, we examined whether and how the allocation of crisis responsibility to the government predicts the public's intention to take vaccines, particularly by investigating its underlying mechanism.
Method And Results: Based on a population-representative sample of Hong Kong adults ( = 3188), our results indicated that (1) the attribution of crisis responsibility directly led to lower vaccination intention, and (2) it also had indirect influences on vaccination intention through trust and anger; specifically, the crisis attribution resulted in less willingness to take vaccines via a decreased trust in government health agencies.

Plant height represents a pivotal agronomic trait for the genetic enhancement of crops. The plant cell wall, being a dynamic entity, is crucial in determining plant stature; however, the regulatory mechanisms underlying cell wall remodeling remain inadequately elucidated. This study demonstrates that the application of gibberellin 3 (GA3) enhances both plant height and cell wall remodeling in tomato () plants.
