Objective: To determine normal values for tissue velocity imaging (TVI) and strain rate imaging (SRI) in the left atrium (LA) and right atrium (RA) in normal subjects.
Methods: A total of 63 healthy volunteers (50.8% male, age: 20-50 years) prospectively underwent TVI and SRI. The peak systolic velocity (TVs), strain (STs) and strain rate (SRs), peak early and late diastolic velocities (TVe and TVa), strain (STe and STa), and strain rate (SRe and SRa) were measured in the base and mid of the LA and RA walls and roofs.
Results: By TVI, TVs and TVe of LA walls decreased significantly from basal to mid-level and from mid to the roof. Mean Tva of LA walls reduced significantly from basal to mid-level and to the roof. By SRI, mean STs and STe of LA walls increased remarkably from basal to mid-level and to the roof and also mean SRs, SRe and SRa increased significantly from basal to mid-level and to the roof. For SRe, the changes were also significant from mid-LA wall to the roof. Mean Tvs, Tve, and Tva of the RA walls reduced significantly from base to mid and then to the RA roof. RA systolic, early, and late diastolic ST and SR increased from base to mid and to the roof.
Conclusion: Peak systolic and diastolic velocities of the LA and RA decreased from the base to the mid and to the roof, while systolic and diastolic ST and SR increased from the base to the mid to the roof.

With over 14 million people living above 3,500 m, the study of acclimatization and adaptation to high altitude in human populations is of increasing importance, where exposure to high altitude (HA) imposes a blood oxygenation and acid-base challenge. A sustained and augmented hypoxic ventilatory response protects oxygenation through ventilatory acclimatization, but elicits hypocapnia and respiratory alkalosis. A subsequent renally mediated compensatory metabolic acidosis corrects pH toward baseline values, with a high degree of interindividual variability.

The changes in lake ice phenology (LIP) can intuitively reflect the climate evolution in the regions where lakes are located, serving as an important indicator of climate change. The Tianshan Mountains, situated at the southern edge of freezing lakes in the Northern Hemisphere, are a crucial water resource base in Xinjiang and support significant ecosystems closely related to human activities. In the context of intensified climate change, this study focuses on the geographical location, altitude, and water quality differences among large lake groups in the mid-latitude region of Xinjiang, aiming to explore the characteristics of LIP changes in these lakes and their responses to driving factors, thereby providing a basis for effective environmental management and protection.

Objectives: The size, shape, and contractility of the heart's atrial chambers have not been evaluated in fetuses with growth restriction (FGR) or who are small-for-gestational-age (SGA) as defined by the Delphi consensus protocol. This study aimed to examine the atrial chambers using speckle tracking analysis to identify any changes that may be specific for either growth disturbance.
Methods: Sixty-three fetuses were evaluated with an estimated fetal weight <10th percentile who were classified as FGR or SGA based on the Delphi consensus protocol.

In the process of studying the species and its varieties, we discovered a unique taxon of the genus that resembles but differs in having a mostly densely white-strigose stem vestiture (sometimes with spreading trichomes) and tuberculate to muricate nutlets with often whitish tubercles that are, in comparison with typical , larger, with a wider base and more pointed apex, and more densely spaced. We believe this form to be different enough to describe as a new species, . This new species occurs in southwestern North America: in California and Arizona of the United States and in northern Baja California, Mexico.
