The anticancer efficacy of methionine γ-lyase (MGL) from Clostridium sporogenes (C. sporogenes) is described. MGL was active against cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Doxorubicin (DOX) and MGL were more effective on A549 human lung-cancer growth inhibition than either agent alone in vitro and in vivo.

Cobalamin (Cbl)-dependent radical -adenosylmethionine (SAM) enzymes constitute a large subclass of radical SAM (RS) enzymes that use Cbl to catalyze various types of reactions, the most common of which are methylations. Most Cbl-dependent RS enzymes contain an N-terminal Rossmann fold that aids Cbl binding. Recently, it has been demonstrated that the methanogenesis marker protein 10 (Mmp10) requires Cbl to methylate an arginine residue in the α-subunit of methyl coenzyme M reductase.

Importance: Understanding the microbial diversity within the gastrointestinal tract of wild Korean water deer (KWD; ) is essential for gaining insights into their health and ecological interactions.
Objective: This study aims to isolate and identify aerobic and anaerobic bacterial species in the feces of wild KWD.
Methods: Fecal samples were collected from 55 wild KWD of varying age and sex.

Obesity is associated with the gut microbiome. Here, we report that gut commensal Clostridia bacteria regulate host energy balance through the tryptophan-derived metabolite indole-3-propionic acid (IPA). IPA acts as an endogenous leptin sensitiser to counteract obesity.

Background/aims: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the deadliest cancers worldwide, mostly arising from adenomatous polyps. Mounting evidence has demonstrated that changes in the gut microbiome play key roles in CRC progression, while quite few studies focused on the altered microbiota architecture of advanced adenoma (AA), a crucial precancerous stage of CRC. Thus, we aimed to investigate the microbial profiles of AA patients.
