Two new alkaloids indolepyrazines A () and B () were isolated from the marine-derived sp. ZZ1275. Their structures were elucidated through extensive nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic analyses, high resolution electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy (HRESIMS) data, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculation. Indolepyrazine A represents the first example of alkaloids with an indole-pyrazine-oxindole skeleton. Both and showed antimicrobial activities against methicillin-resistant , , and with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 12 μg/mL, 8⁻10 μg/mL, and 12⁻14 μg/mL, respectively.

To investigate the effects of 12-week extract supplementation on immune responses and inflammatory cytokines after exhaustive endurance exercise (EEE), emphasizing its novel focus on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) cytokine secretion and the implications of interferon-γ (IFN-γ) as a marker for immune modulation. Twenty healthy men were recruited and assigned into maca and placebo groups using a matched-pair design based on their maximal oxygen consumption (V̇O). All participants consumed 2.

Small proteins (≤100 amino acids) play important roles across all life forms, ranging from unicellular bacteria to higher organisms. In this study, we have developed SProtFP which is a machine learning-based method for functional annotation of prokaryotic small proteins into selected functional categories. SProtFP uses independent artificial neural networks (ANNs) trained using a combination of physicochemical descriptors for classifying small proteins into antitoxin type 2, bacteriocin, DNA-binding, metal-binding, ribosomal protein, RNA-binding, type 1 toxin and type 2 toxin proteins.

The increased prevalence of methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and its biofilms poses a great threat to human health. Especially, -related osteomyelitis was hardly cured even by conventional antibiotics combined with surgical treatment. The development of novel structural antibiotics is urgently needed.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is associated with significant human and financial costs, particularly among vulnerable populations like older adults living in long-term care homes (LTCHs). Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the leading indication for antibiotic use in this population, with some estimates suggesting that up to 70% of these prescriptions may be avoidable.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to develop and test novel behavioural science-informed antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) quality improvement strategies in Canadian LTCHs, which aim to decrease unnecessary testing and treatment for residents who lack the minimum clinical signs and symptoms of UTI.

Urinary catheters are commonly used in medical practice to drain and monitor urine of patients. However, urinary catheterisation is associated with the risk of developing catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs), which can result in life-threatening sepsis that requires antibiotics for treatment. Using the layer-by-layer (LbL) technique, we assembled a multilayer catheter comprising nine quadruple layers (9QL) of alginate, chlorhexidine (CHX), alginate and poly(β-amino ester) (PBAE) built upon an amino-functionalised silicone.
