Glycolic acid (GA), as important building block of biodegradable polymers, has been synthesized for the first time in excellent yields at room temperature by selective oxidation of 1,3-dihyroxyacetone (DHA) using a cheap supported Cu/Al O catalyst with single active Cu species. By combining EPR spin-trapping and operando ATR-IR experiments, different mechanisms for the co-synthesis of GA, formates, and formamides have been derived, in which OH radicals formed from H O by a Fenton-like reaction play a key role.

Poly(glycolic acid) (PGA) is a rapidly degradable polymer mainly used in medical applications, attributed to its relatively high cost. Reducing its price will boost its utilization in a wider range of application fields, such as gas barriers and shale gas extraction. This article presents a strategy that utilizes recycled PGA as a raw material alongside typical carbon nanomaterials, such as graphene oxide nanosheets (GO) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), to produce low-cost, fully degradable yarns via electrospinning and twisting techniques.

Gemcitabine (GEM), a chemotherapeutic agent, is widely utilized in treating various neoplasm conditions, such as pancreatic, lung, breast, and ovarian cancers. However, its therapeutic effectiveness is often hindered by its hydrophilic nature, short half-life and susceptibility to enzymatic degradation.
