Enterococcus faecalis is a Gram-positive, lactic acid-producing coccus which can be found as a member of the gut microbiome in many animal species and is a potential pathogen in humans. Here, we describe the genome sequence of an E. faecalis strain isolated from the gut microbiome of the hymenopteran model Nasonia vitripennis.

Engineering nitrogen fixation in cereals could reduce usage of chemical nitrogen fertilizers. Here, a nitrogenase biosynthesis pathway comprising 13 genes (nifB nifH nifD nifK nifE nifN nifX hesA nifV nifS nifU groES groEL) was introduced into rice by transforming multigene vectors and subsequently by sexual crossing between transgenic rice plants. Genome sequencing analysis revealed that 13 nif genes in F hybrid rice lines L12-13 and L8-17 were inserted at two loci on rice chromosome 1.

G-quadruplexes (G4s) are non-canonical nucleic acid secondary structures formed by guanine-rich DNA or RNA sequences. These structures play pivotal roles in cellular processes, including DNA replication, transcription, RNA splicing, and protein translation. High-throughput sequencing has significantly advanced the study of G4s by enabling genome-wide mapping and detailed characterization.

The mechanisms underlying antigen receptor germline gene diversification have always been a topic of intensive study. Here, we discovered that the frequency of stem-loop sequences in the antigen receptor germline gene region is remarkably higher than the genomic background. By analyzing these stem-loop sequences' similarity and distribution patterns, we found that clustered regularly interspaced homologous stem-loop pairs (CRIHSP) are widely present on the germline genes of antigen receptors in different species.

Objectives: Infections by Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacterales in hospitals represent a severe threat but little is known on outbreaks in rehabilitation wards caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae producing Klebsiella pneumoniae Carbapenemase (KPC-Kp). We report an outbreak by KPC-Kp, in a Neurorehabilitation Unit in Italy, analysed through Whole-Genome Sequencing (WGS) for transmission routes reconstruction to improve management of KPC-Kp infections in rehabilitation units.
Methods: We investigated cases and KPC-Kp isolates collected from February to October 2022 from hospital surveillance.

Troponin C (TnC) is a calcium-binding subunit of the troponin complex that regulates muscle contraction in animals. However, the physiological roles of TnC, especially in insect development and reproduction, remain largely unknown. We identified seven TnC genes encoding four EF-hand motif protein in the rice pest, the brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens.
