Objective: Segmentation of individual thigh muscles in MRI images is essential for monitoring neuromuscular diseases and quantifying relevant biomarkers such as fat fraction (FF). Deep learning approaches such as U-Net have demonstrated effectiveness in this field. However, the impact of reducing neural network complexity remains unexplored in the FF quantification in individual muscles.

Purpose: Our goal was to determine the association between the severity of electrodiagnostic (EDX) studies with the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the ulnar nerve at the cubital tunnel using diagnostic ultrasound. Based on our clinical experience, we hypothesized there would not be a positive correlation between the severity of EDX and ulnar nerve CSA.
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of patients 18 years or older evaluated from May 1, 2020, to June 31, 2021, referred for an upper limb EDX and neuromuscular ultrasound to evaluate for an upper limb neuropathy.

Introduction: Colonic manometry (CM) is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate pediatric patients with refractory constipation, fecal incontinence, Hirschsprung disease, and pediatric intestinal pseudo-obstruction. Pan-colonic high-amplitude propagated contractions (HAPCs), measured by CM, reflect an intact neuromuscular function of the colon. Current guidelines recommend starting CM with fasting recording for 1-2 h, but no prior evaluation has determined the diagnostic yield of the fasting phase.

Their use on patients, or tāngata whai ora (persons seeking wellbeing), raises ethical concerns about harm prevention, moral duties, and human rights in healthcare. The New Zealand healthcare system, grounded in principles and rights, regulates procedures to uphold fundamental rights.

Aims: Residual neuromuscular blockade (RNB) commonly occurs when using neuromuscular blockers and increases the risk for pulmonary complications, such as airway obstruction and severe hypoxemia, in extubated patients. Rocuronium exhibits a high variability in recovery time, contributing to an increased risk for RNB. This study aimed to identify and characterize the sources of variability in rocuronium exposure and response via a population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) analysis and to apply the developed PK/PD model to investigate clinical implications.
