The agglutination titers of () and () were examined in colitis patients with human intestinal spirochetes. Among three cases of colitis patients, the titer of was extremely high in two cases while the titer of was extremely high in one case. These three cases had symptoms of colitis, such as watery diarrhea, and we diagnosed the case as related colitis. These findings suggest that the agglutination titers of may be useful in cases of related colitis. Severe symptoms, such as abdominal pain and diarrhea, were observed in cases with high antibody titer of , as well as , indicating that could also cause symptomatic colitis.

Probiotics have been increasingly recognized for positively influencing many aspects of human health. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (L. plantarum), a non-pathogenic bacterium, previously known as Lactobacillus plantarum, is one of the lactic acid bacteria commonly used in fermentation.

The plastivore insect Tenebrio molitor demonstrates significant potential for the rapid biodegradation and bioremediation of micro(nano)plastics. However, real-time visualization of the digestive degradation and removal of microplastics (MPs) during intestinal transit, along with the associated in vivo intestinal functional responses, remains challenging. Here, we developed second near-infrared (NIR-II) window aggregated-induced emission (AIE) MPs of two sizes (29.

There is a complex interplay between the gut microbes, liver, and central nervous system, a gut-liver-brain axis, where the brain impacts intestinal and hepatic function while the gut and liver can impact cognition and mental status. Dysregulation of this axis can be seen in numerous diseases. Hepatic encephalopathy, a consequence of cirrhosis, is perhaps the best studied perturbation of this system.

α-Cyclodextrin (αCD), a cyclic hexasaccharide composed of six glucose units, is not digested in the small intestine but is completely fermented by gut microbes. Recently, we have reported that αCD supplementation for nonathlete men improved their 10 km biking times. However, the beneficial effects of αCD on exercise are not yet fully understood.

Probiotics exert their beneficial effects by improving the intestinal environment. Heat-inactivated probiotics may show similar effects. However, whether multi-strain mixtures (MSM) are better than single strains, irrespective of whether the bacteria are alive or dead, is unknown.
