In the monograph, he summarized his clinical and experimental approach to the issues of heart diseases, addressed several fundamental problems of modern physiology and healthcare, introduced the concept of "functional unit" and "functional unity of the whole body", the concept of the extracardiac genesis of the chest frog, differential diagnosis of left and right ventricle myocardial infarction, semiotics and treatment of chronic heart failure, functional diagnosis of heart arrhythmias. All these approaches and concepts have long been included in the classics of world cardiology.

His father, Dmitri Petrovich Zinserling, a descendant of immigrants from the south of Germany or Switzerland, who received hereditary nobility, worked all his life as a teacher of mathematics and, as an inspector of the famous Gurevich Gymnasium, had the rank of actual state councilor.

Russian composer Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich (25 September 1903-9 August 1975) is sometimes considered to be a famous person who suffered from ALS. However, there are no medical records that mention that his asymmetric weakness was due to ALS, and the exact diagnosis of his illness, which lasted over 17 years, is still obscure. The aim of this paper is to consider what kind of neurological disorder this great composer of the 20th century suffered from based on his piano recordings, photographs, and documents written by his colleagues.
