Hybrid small-diameter tubes were fabricated by wrapping decellularized aortic intima-media sheets around a tubular stainless steel mandrel with diameter 4 mm, and then by coating with electrospun segmented polyurethane. The synthetic coat was deposited uniformly to a thickness of about 0.5-3.5 μm depending on the duration of electrospinning. Resistance to luminal pressure, burst strength, and stiffness increased with the thickness of the electrospun coat, suggesting that the synthetic fabric reinforces the reconstructed acellular aortic intima-media. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells seeded on the inner surface acquired flagstone morphology, while normal human dermal fibroblasts seeded on the outer surface proliferated well and partly migrated into deeper layers. Collectively, the data suggest that reinforcing decellularized aortic intima-media with electrospun fibers generates a small-diameter hybrid blood vessel with good biocompatibility and suitable mechanical properties. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Objectives: To evaluate the combination of novel colour Doppler ultrasound (CDUS), greyscale ultrasound (GSUS), and oscillometric indices of macroangiopathy in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM). Second, to explore the associations between these imaging markers and both patient-related and disease-related characteristics, as well as traditional cardiovascular (CV) risk factors.
Methods: We conducted CDUS to evaluate arterial compliance markers, specifically the resistance (RI) and pulsatility (PI) indices, both in the common (CCA) and internal carotid arteries (ICA) of patients with IIM and healthy controls.

Carotid intima-media thickness (IMT), measured using high-resolution B-mode ultrasonography, is a widely utilized surrogate marker of subclinical atherosclerosis, the pathophysiological process underlying most clinical cardiovascular disease events. Atherosclerosis is a gradual disease that originates early in life, thus, there has been increased interest in measuring carotid IMT in childhood and adolescence to assess structural change in the arterial vasculature in response to adverse exposures. Background: The objective of this cohort study was to assess the predictive value of main arterial markers for cardiovascular death in middle-aged subjects with metabolic syndrome (MetS).
Methods: This prospective longitudinal study analyzed data from 5829 metabolic syndrome subjects without overt cardiovascular disease aged between 40 and 64 years and enrolled in the Lithuanian High Cardiovascular Risk primary prevention program. Initial assessment comprised the evaluation of aortic pulse wave velocity (aPWV), carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT), carotid stiffness index, cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI), ankle-brachial index (ABI), aortic augmentation index adjusted for a heart rate of 75 bpm (AIXHR75), and endothelium-dependent flow-mediated dilatation (FMD).
