Background: The effects of surgical treatment on the quality of life (QOL) of patients who have osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) have been rarely reported. This multicenter study aimed to elucidate the longitudinal QOL in patients who have ONFH undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA).
Methods: Self-assessment QOL questionnaires, including the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Hip Disease Evaluation Questionnaire (JHEQ), Oxford Hip Score (OHS), and 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey Version 2 (SF-12v2), were administered to 124 patients at six months, one year, two and five years postoperatively.

Background: Steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH) is a pathological condition primarily driven by an impaired balance in the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) into adipogenic and osteogenic lineages. This study aimed to explore the role of miR-129-5p as a regulator of SONFH progression and associated mechanisms.
Methods: BMSCs were harvested from a rat SONFH model.

Case: A 75-year-old woman underwent cruciate retaining total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for osteonecrosis of the knee, converted from unicompartmental arthroplasty due to an intraoperative medial tibial plateau fracture. Four years later, she experienced persistent knee pain. Computed tomography revealed tibial malalignments in 2 planes.

Objectives: To explore the mechanism by which histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) regulates steroid-induced apoptosis of mouse osteocyte-like MLO-Y4 cells.
Methods: MLY-O4 cells were treated with 400 nmol/L trichostatin A (TSA) or 1 mmol/L dexamethasone for 24 h or transfected with a HDAC1-overexpressing vector prior to TSA or dexamethasone treatment. The changes in the expressions of HDAC1, SP1, cleaved caspase-3 and Bax, SP1 acetylation level, cell proliferation, and cell apoptosis were examined.

Background: No appropriate studies have been conducted that compare the biomechanical properties of different fenestration positions in deep circumflex iliac artery (DCIA)-vascularized iliac bone grafts for femoral head necrosis (ONFH) treatment. In this study, we aimed to explore the fenestration locations of DCIA-vascularized iliac grafting in ONFH treatment using FEA and clinical retrospective analysis.
Methods: We simulated an iliac bone flap transplantation with a vascularized tip by finite element analysis (FEA).
