Fiber photometry has become a popular technique to measure neural activity in vivo, but common analysis strategies can reduce the detection of effects because they condense signals into summary measures, and discard trial-level information by averaging . We propose a novel photometry statistical framework based on functional linear mixed modeling, which enables hypothesis testing of variable effects at , and uses trial-level signals without averaging. This makes it possible to compare the timing and magnitude of signals across conditions while accounting for between-animal differences.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) rapidly triggers proinflammatory activation of microglia, contributing to secondary brain damage post-TBI. Although the governing role of energy metabolism in shaping the inflammatory phenotype and function of immune cells has been increasingly recognized, the specific alterations in microglial bioenergetics post-TBI remain poorly understood. Itaconate, a metabolite produced by the enzyme aconitate decarboxylase 1 [IRG1; encoded by immune responsive gene 1 ()], is a pivotal metabolic regulator in immune cells, particularly in macrophages.

Rehabilitation robotics aims to promote activity-dependent reorganization of the nervous system. However, people with paralysis cannot generate sufficient activity during robot-assisted rehabilitation and, consequently, do not benefit from these therapies. Here, we developed an implantable spinal cord neuroprosthesis operating in a closed loop to promote robust activity during walking and cycling assisted by robotic devices.

DNA polymerase β, a member of the X-family of DNA polymerases, undergoes complex regulations both in vitro and in vivo through various posttranslational modifications, including phosphorylation and methylation. The impact of these modifications varies depending on the specific amino acid undergoing alterations. In vitro, methylation of DNA polymerase β with the enzyme protein arginine methyltransferase 6 (PRMT6) at R83 and R152 enhances polymerase activity by improving DNA binding and processivity.

Recognizing masked faces is a challenge. Researchers have explored congruency-based approaches to improve face matching, with promising results. Here, we investigated whether congruency between the encoding and the retrieval conditions can improve masked face recognition when only the eyes are visible under conditions of high and low memory load.
