Solid-state lasers (SSLs) play an important role in developing optoelectronic devices, optical communication, and modern medicine fields. As compared with inorganic SSLs, the electrically pumped organic SSLs (OSSLs) still remain unrealized because of the high lasing threshold and low carrier mobility. Herein, we first demonstrate the laser action at ∼520 nm based on the self-assembled single-crystalline organic microribbons of the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) molecules of 1,4-bis(( E)-4-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)styryl)-2,5-dimethoxybenzene (TPDSB). Moreover, these as-prepared organic microribbons exhibit an effective optical waveguide with a low optical loss of 0.012 dB μm, indicating good light confinement for laser resonator feedback. Impressively, the multiple mode and the single mode lasing are both achieved from individual organic microribbons, whose lasing threshold is as low as 653 nJ cm. These "bottom-up" synthesized organic microribbons based on AIE-active molecules offer a new strategy for the realization of the ultralow threshold OSSLs, which would eventually contribute to the realization of electrically pumped OSSLs.

Controlling coherent light-matter interactions in semiconductor microcavities is at the heart of the next-generation solid-state polaritonic devices. Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites are potential materials for room-temperature polaritonics owing to their high exciton oscillator strengths and large exciton binding energies. Herein, we report on strong exciton-photon coupling in the micro-platelet and micro-ribbon shaped methylammonium lead bromide single crystals.

Three dithio-fused boron dipyrromethenes (BODIPYs), , , and , in which symmetrically S-heteroaromatic ring units fused at [], zigzag, and [] bonds of the parent BODIPY core, respectively, were prepared from the facile and efficient post-functionalization of tetra-halogenated BODIPYs through Pd-catalyzed cyclization. Dithio-fusion at various positions of BODIPY effectively tunes their photophysical properties and single-crystal structural packing arrangements. The single-crystalline microribbons of exhibit commendable hole mobilities in air, reaching up to 0.

Calcium-ion batteries are an emerging energy storage device owing to the low redox potential of Ca/Ca and the naturally abundant reserves of the Ca element. However, the high charge density and large radius of Ca lead to a low calcium storage capacity or unsatisfactory cycling performance for most electrode materials. Herein, we report the organic crystal 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic diimide (PTCDI) as an anode material for aqueous calcium-ion batteries (ACIBs) in a water-in-salt electrolyte.

Compared to the organic counterparts, chiral self-assembly of nanomaterials shows persistency to kinetic factors such as solvent environments, and consequently, dynamic modulation of self-assembly and functions remains major challenge. Here, it is shown that alkylated, chiral polymer dots (c-PDs) give highly ordered self-assemblies with amplified chirality adaptive to solvent environments, and one-to-many hierarchical aggregation can be realized. The c-PDs tended to self-assemble into nanohelices with cubic packing in the solid state, which, thanks to the thermo-responsiveness, transformed into thermic liquid crystals upon heating.

Organic circularly polarized (CP) lasers have received increasing attention due to their future photoelectric applications. Here, we demonstrate a CP laser from a pure organic crystal-filled microcavity without any chiral molecules or chiral structures. Benefited from the giant anisotropy and excellent laser gain of organic crystals, optical Rashba-Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling effect can be induced and is conductive to the CP laser in such microcavities.
