Moisturizers provide significant benefit in dermatology – as adjuvant therapy for many clinical conditions, as a key player in anti-aging regimens, and as a core component in maintaining healthy skin barrier function. Although they have been a mainstay for decades, lotions and creams are no longer formulated with a one-size-fits-all approach, where thickness was the primary cue for efficacy. In fact, moisturizer design today has become an art as well as a science. Product efficacy, aesthetics, and packaging are all engineered in a variety of ways, to create an expansive market of products that meet many consumer needs. The addition of specific types of functional ingredients can make a noteworthy difference as well. This article will explore the myriad approaches for moisturizer development and debunk some of the long-standing myths that have pervaded the marketplace. J Drugs Dermatol. 2019;18(1 Suppl):s89-95

An innovative approach for lipid-rich food preservation: peanut skin microcapsules.

J Food Sci

January 2025

Instituto Multidisciplinario de Biología Vegetal (IMBIV), Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET), Córdoba, Argentina.

This study evaluates the microencapsulation of peanut skin phenolic compounds by spray drying, assessing their physicochemical properties and storage stability and the protective effect against oxidative deterioration in walnut kernels. Extraction yield, total phenolic content, and HPLC-ESI-MS/MS analysis were performed on peanut skin crude extract (PCE). Microencapsulation of PCE with 10%, 20%, and 30% maltodextrin via spray drying was conducted.

Objectives: The concept of beauty from within is a growing trend in the market and people now look for oral supplements that can enhance the well-being of skin from within. Within this principle, a proprietary pomegranate extract (Grantria), standardized to ellagic acid, punicic acid and punicalagin, was developed using ADOP (Advanced Oil-Powder) technology and was clinically evaluated for its efficacy and safety in healthy adults.

Methods: This evaluation was carried out as a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical study for 60 days at a daily dose of 300 mg.

Low-temperature synthesis is crucial for advancing sustainable manufacturing and accessing novel metastable phases. Metal hydrides have shown great potential in facilitating the reduction of oxides at low temperatures, yet the underlying mechanism─whether driven by H, H, or atomic H─remains unclear. In this study, we employ electrical transport measurements and first-principles calculations to investigate the CaH-driven reduction kinetics in epitaxial α-FeO thin films.

Rapid detection of sludge moisture content based on the frequency domain reflection.

Environ Technol

December 2024

College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, China Jiliang University, Hangzhou, People's Republic of China.

The moisture content (MC) of sludge is a critical factor affecting sludge treatment and disposal technologies. Traditional drying methods for measuring sludge MC are time-consuming and lack of portability. To achieve rapid online detection of sludge MC, this paper proposes a method based on frequency domain reflectometry.
