The present study investigated the role of endothelial BDNF in cognition. Male adult mice with a selective knockout of BDNF in endothelial cells () and their wild-type littermates (WT) were subjected to tests for detection of anxiety- and depression-like behaviors and impaired recognition memory. Neuronal activity and synaptogenesis were assessed from hippocampal levels of c-fos and synaptophysin, respectively, and cerebral capillary density from forebrain levels of CD31.

Background: Lymphangiogenesis is believed to be a protective response in the setting of multiple forms of kidney injury and mitigates the progression of interstitial fibrosis. To augment this protective response, promoting kidney lymphangiogenesis is being investigated as a potential treatment to slow the progression of kidney disease. As injury-related lymphangiogenesis is driven by signaling from the receptor VEGFR3 (vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3) in response to the cognate growth factor VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor)-C released by tubular epithelial cells, this signaling pathway is a candidate for future kidney therapeutics.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), now known as metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), is the most common liver disease worldwide, with a prevalence of 38%. In these patients, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of mortality rather than liver disease. Liver abnormalities due to MASLD contribute to risk factors such as dyslipidemia and obesity and increase CVD incidents.

Early in Alzheimer's disease (AD), pericytes constrict capillaries, increasing their hydraulic resistance and trapping of immune cells and, thus, decreasing cerebral blood flow (CBF). Therapeutic approaches to attenuate pericyte-mediated constriction in AD are lacking. Here, using in vivo two-photon imaging with laser Doppler and speckle flowmetry and magnetic resonance imaging, we show that Ca entry via L-type voltage-gated calcium channels (CaVs) controls the contractile tone of pericytes.
