Zn/F co-doped SnO nanoparticles with a mean diameter of less than 15 nm and a narrow size distribution were synthesized by a one-step laser pyrolysis technique using a reactive mixture containing tetramethyltin (SnMe) and diethylzinc (ZnEt) vapors, diluted Ar, O and SF. Their structural, morphological, optical and electrical properties are reported in this work. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis shows that the nanoparticles possess a tetragonal SnO crystalline structure. The main diffraction patterns of stannous fluoride (SnF) were also identified and a reduction in intensity with increasing Zn percentage was evidenced. For the elemental composition estimation, energy dispersion X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements were performed. In general, both analyses showed that the Zn percentage increases with increasing ZnEt flow, accompanied at the same time by a decrease in the amount of F in the nanopowders when the same SF flow was employed. The Raman spectra of the nanoparticles show the influence of both Zn and F content and crystallite size. The fluorine presence is due to the catalytic partial decomposition of the SF laser energy transfer agent. In direct correlation with the increase in the Zn doping level, the bandgap of co-doped nanoparticles shifts to lower energy (from 3.55 to 2.88 eV for the highest Zn dopant concentration).

Synthesis and Properties of Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Polyferrocenylmethylenes.

Chemistry

December 2024

The synthesis of differently substituted polyferrocenylmethylenes (PFM) via ring-opening transmetalation polymerization (ROTP) is reported. A number of novel, symmetrically and asymmetrically substituted carba[1]magnesocenophanes have been prepared, which were used as precursors and allowed investigations of the influence of different substitution patterns on the PFM polymer properties. The novel carba[1]magnesocenophanes have been fully characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, and structurally authenticated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD).

Fe single-atom and Fe cluster-coupled N, S co-doped carbon nanomaterials (Fe-FeO-NSC) were prepared through a two-step high-temperature pyrolysis process using Gelidium corneum enriched with C, Fe, O, N, and S as precursors. The analysis by aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy revealed the presence of single-atom Fe in Fe-N coordination structures, along with small clusters as Fe-O-coordinated FeO. Single-atom Fe in the form of Fe/Fe provides more electrocatalytic active sites, which synergistically accelerates the charge migration process in the assembly of Fe-FeO-NSC with FeO clusters.

Aging analyses of transformer oil based on optical properties of LIF spectroscopy.

Here, the real time pyrolysis characteristics, the degradation degree and the aging time of the transformer oil have been investigated using laser induced fluorescence (LIF) spectroscopy. The signal elevation up to four-fold and the lucid red shift up to 10 nm are obtained against those of fresh oil. The fluorescence signal and the corresponding spectral shift are demonstrated to follow a linear correlation in terms of aging time.

Article Synopsis
  • Microplastics (MPs) pollution is rising, yet there’s limited research on its effects on endometrial polyps, which are linked to female infertility.
  • This study used advanced techniques to detect and compare the levels of MPs in normal endometrial tissue versus endometrial polyps, finding a significant increase in MPs, particularly polyethylene and polystyrene, in the polyp samples.
  • The research also noted that polystyrene microspheres may stimulate the growth and movement of endometrial cells via a specific biological pathway, suggesting that MPs might contribute to endometrial polyp development, and calls for further investigation.

Electronic address:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, face masks, as personal protective equipment (PPE) against the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), have been widely used worldwide. How to properly dispose of used PPE has brought a huge challenge to the ecosystem and human health. Here we proposed a laser flash pyrolysis (LFP) strategy to upcycle the used polypropylene(PP) face mask to vinylidene-terminated PP wax (PP-VDT) and further functionalized for compatibilizer application.
