Published: April 2019

Tedizolid is a novel oxazolidinone with activities against Gram-positive microorganisms, including mycobacteria. We studied the activity of tedizolid against 120  strains, including susceptible, first-line-resistant, and multidrug-resistant isolates. MIC was tested using the Bactec 960 MGIT system. MIC and MIC were 0.5 and 0.25 μg/ml, respectively, in susceptible and resistant strains. Tedizolid may be an alternative in the treatment of resistant .

Article Synopsis
  • Oxazolidinones, like linezolid and tedizolid, can cause adverse reactions, particularly thrombocytopenia, due to their impact on mitochondrial function, though the exact mechanism is still unclear.
  • * In experiments with human CD34+ cells, oxazolidinones significantly reduced burst-forming unit-erythroid (BFU-E) colony formation and disrupted the differentiation of megakaryocytes, affecting their typical maturation and structure.
  • * The toxicity observed was more severe with tedizolid compared to linezolid, suggesting that mitochondrial dysfunction plays a crucial role in thrombocytopenia, which complicates potential pharmacological solutions for this side effect.

Article Synopsis
  • Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease that may be worsened by cellular senescence, although their relationship is not fully understood.
  • New research shows that the compound Tedizolid Phosphate (TED) can combat senescence in colon cells affected by the UC inducer dextran sulfate sodium (DSS).
  • TED not only alleviated UC symptoms and colon senescence in mice but also worked by restoring AMPK signaling, suggesting that targeting senescence might be a promising treatment strategy for UC.

Oxazolidinones are potent antimicrobial agents used to treat human infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-positive bacteria. The growing resistance to oxazolidinones poses a significant threat to public health. In August 2021, a linezolid-resistant Enterococcus faecium BN83 was isolated from a raw milk sample of cow in Inner Mongolia, China.

Purpose: Cisplatin is a low-cost clinical anti-tumor drug widely used to treat solid tumors. However, its use could damage cochlear hair cells, leading to irreversible hearing loss. Currently, there appears one drug approved in clinic only used for reducing ototoxicity associated with cisplatin in pediatric patients, which needs to further explore other candidate drugs.

In vitro activity of tedizolid against 43 species of Nocardia species.

Sci Rep

March 2024

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Fukushima Medical University, 1 Hikariga-Oka, Fukushima City, Fukushima, 960-1295, Japan.

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the in vitro activity of tedizolid against several clinically significant species of Nocardia by comparing with that of linezolid. A total of 286 isolates of Nocardia species, including 236 clinical isolates recovered from patients in Japan and 50 strains (43 species) purchased from NITE Biological Resource Center, were studied. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed using the broth microdilution method.
