Introduction: We evaluated the prognostic role of the arterial oxygen partial pressure/fractional inspired oxygen ratio (PaO /FiO ratio) measured at the end of double-lung transplantation (DLT).
Methods: This was a monocentric cohort study of all consecutive DLT patients between January 1, 2012, and January 1, 2016, except patients with preoperative extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), intraoperative cardiopulmonary bypass, postoperative ECMO, large patent foramen ovale, redo transplantation during the study period, and multiorgan transplantation.
Results: A total of 164 patients were included in the study; 45 had a PaO /FiO ratio <200, 39 a ratio in the range 200-300, and 80 a ratio >300. The risk of being in the lower ratio group is positively related to body mass index, preoperative pulmonary hypertension, and fibrosis. It is negatively related to emergency surgery, age, and intraoperative institution of ECMO. There was a trend for more grade 3 pulmonary graft dysfunction at day 3 in the worst PaO /FiO ratio group. Mortality at 1000 days was similar for all patients and even after exclusion of patients who had required intraoperative ECMO.
Conclusion: PaO /FiO ratio measured at the end of DLT does not forecast 1000-day mortality.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the expression levels of serum forkhead box protein M1(FOXM1) and insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) mRNA in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) condition and prognosis.
Methods: Ninety patients with ARDS admitted to our hospital were regarded as the ARDS group, according to the prognosis, they were grouped into death group ( = 64) and survival group ( = 126); the control group consisted of 190 healthy individuals.
Results: Compared with the control group, the level of serum FOXM1 mRNA in ARDS group was obviously lower, and the level of IGF2 mRNA was higher.

This study aims to investigate the predictive value of platelet distribution width (PDW) in patients with influenza A virus (IAV) infection. The clinical data of 105 IAV-infected patients was collected and analyzed. We found that creatine kinase (CK), Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II score, PDW, and red blood cell distribution width (RDW) were independent risk factors for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) development.
