Conducting an efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) using two-dimensional molybdenum disulphide as electrocatalysts remains a challenging task due to the insufficient active edge sites. In this regard, herein, molybdenum disulphide nanosheets with rich active sulphur sites were vertically grown on the graphene surface via a chemical vapour deposition process. The direct integration of vertically aligned MoS2 nanosheets on graphene forms a van der Waals (vdW) heterojunction, which facilitates a barrier-free charge transport towards the electrolyte as a result of unique and well-matched energy band alignment at the interface. The prospective combination of Ohmic graphene/MoS2 heterostructure and the high electrocatalytic edge activity of sulphur delivers an incredibly and small turn-on potential of 0.14 V vs. RHE in the acid electrolyte solution. Most importantly, the use of a vertical vdW device architecture exhibits nearly 8× improvement in HER than that of its layered counterpart. Moreover, the HER reaction is highly stable over 50 hours of continuous operation even after 150 days. The combined analysis of our study makes it certain that the graphene/MoS2 heterostructure will be an efficient alternative electrode for low-cost and large-scale electrochemical applications.

The processes of electrochemical deposition of Ni on vertically aligned GaAs nanowires (NWs) grown by molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) using Au as a growth catalyst on Si(111) substrates were studied. Based on the results of electrochemical deposition, it was concluded that during the MBE synthesis of NWs the self-induced formation of conductive channels can occur inside NWs, thereby forming quasi core-shell nanowires. Depending on the length of the channel compare to the NW heights and the parameters of electrochemical deposition, the different hybrid metal-semiconductor nanostructures, such as Ni nanoparticles on GaAs NW side walls, Ni clusters on top ends of GaAs NWs, core-shell Ni/GaAs NWs, were obtained.

The rational design of multicomponent heterostructure is an effective strategy to enhance the catalytic activity of electrocatalysts for water and seawater electrolysis in alkaline conditions. Herein, MOF-derived nitrogen-doped carbon/nickel-cobalt sulfides coupled vertically aligned Rhenium disulfide (ReS) on carbon cloth (NC-CoNiS@ReS/CC) are constructed via hydrothermal and activation approaches. Experimental and theoretical analysis demonstrates that the strong interactions between multiple interfaces promote electron redistribution and facilitate water dissociation, thereby optimizing *H adsorption energy for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).

Thermal conductivity enhancement in polymers is vital for advanced applications. This study introduces a novel method to align hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) nanosheets within polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrices using a Halbach array to create a highly uniform magnetic field. This technique achieves significant improvements in thermal conductivity by effectively aligning hBN nanosheets.

Background: Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) is considered a promising surgical procedure, and several studies have reported its advantages in improving shoulder elevation. However, patients undergoing RTSA may still experience challenges related to rotational movements. While external rotation may be improved with lateralization, internal rotation may occasionally deteriorate after RTSA.

The demand for compact energy storage devices necessitates the development of high-performance anode materials directly integrated with current collectors, minimizing or eliminating the need for binders or additives. With its layered structure and high theoretical capacity, molybdenum disulfide (MoS) is regarded as a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Here, we report chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of self-integrated, vertically aligned MoS nanosheets with embedded molybdenum dioxide (MoO) directly on a molybdenum foil and explore its potential as an anode material for LIBs.
