A Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic bacterial strain, designated strain S27, was isolated from soil near an artificial pond in South Korea. Cells were non-motile short rods showing oxidase- and catalase-positive activities. Growth of strain S27 was observed at 20-40°C (optimum, 30°C), pH 5.0-7.0 (optimum, pH 6.0), and 0-0.5% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0%). Ubiquinone-8 was detected as the sole respiratory quinone and the major fatty acids were C, cyclo-C, and cyclo-Cω8c. The G + C content of the genomic DNA was 62.4 mol%. Phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, and an unidentified aminophospholipid were detected as the major polar lipids. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain S27 formed a clearly distinct phyletic lineage from closely related Paraburkholderia species within the genus Paraburkholderia. Strain S27 was most closely related to Paraburkholderia rhynchosiae WSM3937, Paraburkholderia ginsengiterrae DCY85, Paraburkholderia fungorum NBRC 102489, and Paraburkholderia graminis C4D1M with 98.8%, 98.4%, 98.4%, and 97.7% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities, respectively. The DNA-DNA relatedness level between strain S27 and the type strain of P. rhynchosiae was 36.8 ± 2.6%. On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and molecular properties, strain S27 represents a novel species of the genus Paraburkholderia, for which the name Paraburkholderia lacunae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is S27 (KACC 19714 = JCM 32721).

Microbe-Assisted Phytoremediation (MAP) is an eco-friendly method for remediating soil contaminated with heavy metals such as cadmium (Cd) and chromium (Cr). This study demonstrates the potential of a king grass-Serratia marcescens strain S27 (KS) co-symbiotic system to enhance heavy metal remediation. The KS symbiosis increased the biomass of king grass by 48 % and enhanced the accumulation of Cd and Cr in the whole plant by 2.

Background: Lung transplant (LUTX) candidates have subclinical right ventricular (RV) dysfunction, which has not yet been assessed by speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE)-derived RV free-wall longitudinal strain (RVFWLS). To evaluate the prevalence of RV dysfunction by RVFWLS and its relationship with conventional RV echocardiographic indexes in LUTX candidates.

Methods: In a single-center prospective observational cohort study, from January 2021 to March 2023 consecutive LUTX candidates underwent cardiac catheterization, radionuclide ventriculography, standard and STE.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a Gram-negative bacillus capable of developing in humid environments and animal tissue. The interest in this bacterium lies in its ability to cause opportunistic diseases in patients with cystic fibrosis and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). The objective of our study was to characterize the resistance profile of strains causing HAIs isolated in hospitals within our community, from January 2019 to December 2021.
