The interior structure of Saturn, the depth of its winds, and the mass and age of its rings constrain its formation and evolution. In the final phase of the Cassini mission, the spacecraft dived between the planet and its innermost ring, at altitudes of 2600 to 3900 kilometers above the cloud tops. During six of these crossings, a radio link with Earth was monitored to determine the gravitational field of the planet and the mass of its rings. We find that Saturn's gravity deviates from theoretical expectations and requires differential rotation of the atmosphere extending to a depth of at least 9000 kilometers. The total mass of the rings is (1.54 ± 0.49) × 10 kilograms (0.41 ± 0.13 times that of the moon Mimas), indicating that the rings may have formed 10 to 10 years ago.

Saturn's moon, Titan, has a hydrocarbon-based hydrologic cycle with methane and ethane rainfall. Because of Titan's low gravity, "floating liquid droplets" (coherent droplets of liquid hydrocarbons that float upon a liquid surface) may form on the surface of Titan's hydrocarbon lakes and seas during rainfall. Floating liquid droplets, however, have not been investigated in the laboratory under conditions appropriate for the surface of Titan (cryogenic, hydrocarbon, liquids).

Important properties of the dynamics of a spacecraft can be obtained from the Circular Restricted Three Body Problem and the Bi-Circular Bi-planar Four Body Problem. In this work, both systems are compared under the perspective of the costs involved in a transfer between the smaller primaries. An analytical approach shows several properties of the perturbation due to the gravity of the Sun and the motion of the smaller primaries around it over a spacecraft in the region of interest, like its behavior at and around the barycenter or at any point in a circle around the Sun.

With new and advanced technology, human exploration has reached outside of the Earth's boundaries. There are plans for reaching Mars and the satellites of Jupiter and Saturn, and even to build a permanent base on the Moon. However, human beings have evolved on Earth with levels of gravity and radiation that are very different from those that we have to face in space.

The circular restricted three-body model is widely used for astrodynamical studies in systems where two major bodies are present. However, this model relies on many simplifications, such as point-mass gravity and planar, circular orbits of the bodies, and limiting its accuracy. In an effort to achieve higher-fidelity results while maintaining the autonomous simplicity of the classic model, we employ zonal harmonic perturbations since they are symmetric about the -axis, thus bearing no time-dependent terms.
