Aim: To evaluate modulatory effect of verapamil (VP) in rifampicin (RIF) activity and its effect in efflux pumps (EPs) transcript levels in Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Materials & Methods: RIF and VP minimal inhibitory concentration, combinatory effect and detection of mutations were determined in 16 isolates. EPs transcript levels were determined in four isolates by real-time PCR after exposure to drugs.
Results: VP showed good combinatory effect among RIF-resistant isolates. This effect was also observed in the relative transcript levels of EPs, mainly after 72 h of exposure, depending on the EP gene, genotype and the resistance profile of the isolate.
Conclusion: Additional regulatory mechanisms in the EP activities, as well as, interactions with other drug-specific resistance mechanisms need further investigation in M. tuberculosis.

Mitochondrial epigenetics, particularly mtDNA methylation, is a flourishing field of research. MtDNA methylation appears to play multiple roles, including regulating mitochondrial transcription, cell metabolism and mitochondrial inheritance. In animals, bivalves with doubly uniparental inheritance (DUI) of mitochondria are the exception to the rule of maternal mitochondrial inheritance since DUI also involve a paternal mtDNA transmitted from the father to sons.

Lines of evidence have indicated that type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an independent risk factor for osteoarthritis (OA) progression. However, the study focused on the relationship between T2DM and OA at the transcriptional level remains empty. We downloaded OA- and T2DM-related bulk RNA-sequencing and single-cell RNA sequencing data from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) dataset.

Cold stress, a major abiotic factor, positively modulates the synthesis of artemisinin in Artemisia annua and influences the biosynthesis of other secondary metabolites. To elucidate the changes in the synthesis of secondary metabolites under low-temperature conditions, we conducted dynamic transcriptomic and metabolite quantification analyses of A. annua leaves.

Polyomavirus enhancer activator 3 (PEA3), an ETS transcription factor, has been documented to regulate the development and metastasis of human cancers. Nonetheless, a thorough analysis examining the relationship between the PEA3 subfamily members and tumour development, prognosis, and the tumour microenvironment (TME) across various cancer types has not yet been conducted. The expression profiles and prognostic significance of the PEA3 subfamily were evaluated using data from the GEO, TCGA, and PrognoScan databases, in conjunction with COX regression analyses and the Kaplan-Meier Plotter.
