Despite many advances in the development of artificial systems with helical twist motions or deformations, obtaining materials that can undergo continuous twist movements upon an energy input remains a great challenge. In this work, a continuous twist movement of microribbons driven by scanning laser irradiation, a process that a twist generates initially at one end of the microribbon and is continuously transmitted to the other end and then kept twisting, is reported. Key factors to the achievement of this movement are the fabrication of elastic microribbons that possess relatively low elastic modulus and diagonal photoinduced π-stacking distortion relative to the microribbon long axis. Furthermore, the scanning laser irradiation is required to drive the π-stacking distortion with the spatiotemporal coordination for the continuous twist movement of microribbons. These findings may be extended to the achievement of other sophisticated continuous movements of microscale systems.

The Parallel Continuum Robot (PCR) is an emerging class of soft robotics distinguished by features such as flexibility, safety, compactness, and dexterity attributed to their continuous components, meanwhile their lack of precision and stiffness are compensated by the parallel configuration. These inherent advantages position PCR as a potential choice for applications ranging from flexible bio-mimetic robots like an elephant trunk to scenarios requiring human contact, such as the manipulator of a minimally invasive surgical robot. In this paper, we propose a novel PCR design capable of achieving 6 degree-of-freedom control of the end effector, with an augmented reachable workspace and range of twisting.

Background: Bilateral acute subdural hematomas (aSDHs) present a significant challenge for neurosurgeons, particularly due to the risk of contralateral hematoma enlargement following unilateral evacuation and subsequent volume shifts. This complexity is further compounded in elderly patients with preexisting health conditions.
Observations: This case report presents a novel minimally invasive approach for managing bilateral aSDHs in a 76-year-old female.

Flexible wearable potentiometric ion sensors for continuous monitoring of electrolyte cations have made significant advances in bioanalysis for personal healthcare and diagnostics. However, less attention is paid to the most abundant extracellular anion, chloride ion (Cl) as a mark of electrolyte imbalance and an important diagnostic indicator of cystic fibrosis, which has important significance for accurate monitoring in complex biological fluids. An all-solid-state Cl-selective electrode is constructed utilizing oxygen vacancies reinforced vanadium oxide with a nitrogen-doped carbon shield as the solid contact (VO@NC/Cl-ISE).
