An SHG-active noncentrosymmetric (3,4)-connected Zn(ii)-organic framework, {[Zn2(4-abpt)(3,4-pydc)2]·2DMAc·3MeOH·H2O}n (1-Zn), was synthesized using a mixed-ligand system. The 1-Zn framework undergoes metal metathesis, with the complete exchange of the tetrahedrally coordinated ZnII ions with CuII ions while retaining the integrity of the network.

Ferroelectricity with concomitant Coulomb screening in van der Waals heterostructures.

Nat Nanotechnol

State Key Laboratory for Mesoscopic Physics, School of Physics, Peking University, Beijing, China.

Interfacial ferroelectricity emerges in non-centrosymmetric heterostructures consisting of non-polar van der Waals (vdW) layers. Ferroelectricity with concomitant Coulomb screening can switch topological currents or superconductivity and simulate synaptic response. So far, it has only been realized in bilayer graphene moiré superlattices, posing stringent requirements to constituent materials and twist angles.

Unprecedented Ultraviolet Circularly Polarized Light-Dependent Anomalous Photovoltaics in Chiral Hybrid Perovskites.

Circularly Polarized Light (CPL)-dependent anomalous photovoltaic effect (APVE), characterized by light helicity-manipulated steady photocurrent and above-bandgap photovoltage, has demonstrated significant potential in the fields of photoelectronic and photovoltaics. However, exploiting CPL-dependent APVE in chiral hybrid perovskites, a promising family with intrinsic chiroptical activity and non-centrosymmetric structure, remains challenging. Here, leveraging the flexible structural design of chiral alternating cations intercalation-type perovskites, CPL-dependent APV, for the first time, is achieved in chiral perovskites.

CuI cubane-type secondary building units are reticulated with a piperazine linker at room temperature to crystallize the metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) CuI(Pip) in a non-centrosymmetric 622 space group. For the first time, cubane cluster type MOF's strong piezoelectric nature has been studied by switching spectroscopy piezo force microscopy (SS-PFM) and piezo force microscopy (PFM) mapping of the crystal, with piezoelectric constant () ∼52.33 pm V, highlighting its potential for mechanical energy harvesting processes.

Organic-inorganic hybrid ferroelectric compounds of the halobismuthate family have emerged as a focal point of research owing to their reduced toxicity and distinctive optical characteristics. This study presents a novel ammonium hybrid perovskite, [BPMBDMA]·[Bi2Br9], which exhibits both ferro- and piezoelectric properties and crystallizes in the polar noncentrosymmetric 2 space group. The nonlinear optical (NLO) activity of [BPMBDMA]·[Bi2Br9] was corroborated through second harmonic generation measurements evidencing its noncentrosymmetric structure, which was further substantiated by piezoresponse force microscopy analyses.

Anionic modulation induces molecular polarity in a three-component crown ether system.

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanchang University, Nanchang, 330031, People's Republic of China.

Three-component crown ether phase change materials are characterized by a structural phase change in response to external stimuli such as temperature and electric or magnetic fields, resulting in significant changes in physical properties. In this work, we designed and synthesized two novel host-guest crown ether molecules [(PTFMA)(15-crown-5)ClO] (1) and [(PTFMA)(15-crown-5)PF] (2), through the reaction of -trifluoromethylaniline (PTFMA) with 15-crown-5 in perchloric acid or hexafluorophosphoric acid aqueous solution. Compound 1 undergoes a structural change from the non-centrosymmetric space group (2) to the centrosymmetric space group (2/) with increasing temperature.
