Background: Wisdom is a capacity, which is needed in coping with difficult problems in life. It can be understood as a special type of problem solving skill. It is getting growing recognition in psychology in general, and in psychotherapy and clinical practice in particular. Goal of the present study is to assess wisdom competencies and their correlates in psychosomatic patients, using for the first time the 12-WD-scale.

Method: The 12-WD-Scale covers 12 wisdom dimensions. As part of their routine intake assessment, 202 unselected inpatients of a department of psychosomatic medicine filled in the 12-WD-scale together with the differential life burden scale, the global belief in a just world scale and the posttraumatic embitterment scale. Additional patient and clinical data could be taken from the routine data.

Results: Wisdom scores showed a normal distribution. The mean was in the positive range (4.50, SD=0.71). A factor analysis showed three factors (sobriety, serenity, modesty), explaining 53.7% of the total variance. There were positive correlations of the wisdom score with life satisfaction and age, negative correlations with beliefs in justice and embitterment, but not with formal education.

Discussion: The results of the 12-WD-Scale show that psychosomatic patients appreciate wisdom attitudes and that this is associated with better coping in life. Wisdom competencies are an interesting field in psychotherapy when patients are burdened by difficult situations in life. The 12-WD-scale can provide helpful information in this regard.

This study sought to understand how young adults (age 18-25) with histories of mental health disorders are coping with disrupted transitions to adulthood during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional web survey was conducted in March-June 2021 of 967 US young adults with pre-pandemic psychiatric disability to assess their current psychiatric status, interrupted transitions, and associations with social determinants including income, community participation, and social context. Mental health was assessed with the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7), and PTSD Checklist-Civilian Version.

Background: Adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer experience long-term consequences into survivorship that impact quality of life, including mental health symptoms, substance use, and persistent pain. Given the elevated rates of pain, AYA cancer survivors are at increased risk for opioid pain medication (OPM) exposure, increasing risk for opioid-related negative consequences, particularly for those with mental health symptoms. Minimal research has documented that a considerable proportion of AYAs with cancer receive OPM that continues into survivorship, yet the lack of consensus on the definition of problematic opioid use coupled with the high clinical need for OPM makes it particularly challenging to understand the impact of OPM use in this population.

Background: The COVID-19 outbreak played a significant psychological impact on nurses, as they coped with intense emotional and cognitive demands, in a context in which the Health System was not prepared to face the emergency. Literature showed that pandemics influenced the nurses' stress and psychosocial health due to poor rest, high work overloads, a lack of control over the patient flows, and a frequent isolation from family. Under these circumstances, nurses experienced severe psychological and mental stressors that generated mental health problems.
