The reaction between haloform, the complexes [Cp*IrCl2(κC-MeNC3H2NCH2Ar)] (Ar = C6H3F2-2,6, C6H3F-2-Cl-6, C6H3Me2-2,6) and silver(i) oxide proceeded by carbon-halogen bond fission to yield the carbonate complexes [Cp*Ir(κ2O-CO3)(κC-MeNC3H2NCH2Ar)].

Electrolysis of -alkynyl--(formyl)anilides and sodium sulfinates on graphite electrodes delivers biologically sound 3-(sulfonyl)quinol-4-ones with moderate to good yields. The reaction is carried out in an undivided cell in the presence of silver(I) oxide with potassium iodide or sodium tetrafluoroborate as the supporting electrolyte. The reaction tolerates variously substituted anilides as well as aryl and alkyl sulfinates.

The quest for cost-efficient and high-performance electrocatalysts towards electrocatalytic water splitting is a key and an interdisciplinary area of study. Considerable progress is being driven by developments in the field of energy research. In a fundamental study, we have synthesized NHC precursors ( and ) and corresponding metal-NHC complexes of silver(I)- ( and ) and ruthenium(II)- ( and ) of a N-heterocyclic carbene-based ligand type incorporating coumarins.

Fluoridoargentates(II) represent a fascinating class of silver(II) compounds with structural and magnetic similarities to cuprate superconductors. However, their synthesis is challenging, leaving their properties largely underexplored and hindering the discovery of new phases. This study introduces mechanochemistry as a novel approach for the synthesis of fluoridoargentates(II), avoiding the use of anhydrous HF or elemental fluorine and employing readily available equipment.

Triphenylamine (TPA) and N-heterotriangulene (N-HTA) scaffolds with up to three oligophenyl extensions are investigated by electrospray ionization (tandem) mass spectrometry (ESI-[MS/]MS). Due to their low oxidation potentials, all molecules readily form radical cations in the electrospray process. The energy-resolved collision-induced dissociation behaviour of the molecular ions is contrasted to that of the silver(I) adducts.

α-Fluorinated aryl esters pose a challenge in synthesis via -arylation of α-fluorinated carboxylates owing to their low reactivities. This limitation has been addressed by combining a silver catalyst with aryl(trimethoxyphenyl)iodonium tosylates to access α-fluorinated aryl esters. We envision that the catalytic system involves high-valent aryl silver species generated via the oxidation of silver(I) salt.
