A new LeNet-5 gas identification convolutional neural network structure for electronic noses is proposed and developed in this paper. Inspired by the tremendous achievements made by convolutional neural networks in the field of computer vision, the LeNet-5 was adopted and improved for a 12-sensor array based electronic nose system. Response data of the electronic nose to different concentrations of CO, CH₄ and their mixtures were acquired by an automated gas distribution and test system. By adjusting the parameters of the CNN structure, the gas LeNet-5 was improved to recognize the three categories of CO, CH₄ and their mixtures omitting the concentration influences. The final gas identification accuracy rate reached 98.67% with the unused data as test set by the improved gas LeNet-5. Comparison with results of Multiple Layer Perceptron neural networks and Probabilistic Neural Network verifies the improvement of recognition rate while with the same level of time cost, which proved the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) present in surface aquatic systems is a heterogeneous mixture of organic compounds reflecting its allochthonous and autochthonous organic matter (OM) sources. The composition of DOM is determined by environmental factors like land use, water chemistry, and climate, which influence its release, movement, and turnover in the ecosystem. However, studying the impact of these environmental factors on DOM composition is challenging due to the dynamic nature of the system and the complex interactions of multiple environmental factors involved.

With the increasing prevalence of emerging contaminants (ECs) in the environment, gaining a deeper understanding of the chemical information pertaining to the contamination source is a crucial step toward effective prevention and control of these ECs. This study presents a novel strategy for analyzing the chemical information of contamination sources using gas chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (GC-HRMS) and demonstrates it on landfill leachate, a common and representative environmental contamination source. Initially, a non-targeted screening approach using HRMS was used to characterize a total of 5344 organic compounds with identification confidence levels 1 and 2 in 14 landfill leachate samples.

Rationale: The high-resolution measurement capability of Fourier-transform mass spectrometry (FT-MS) has made it a necessity for exploring the molecular composition of complex organic mixtures, like soil, plant, aquatic, and petroleum samples. This demand has driven a need for informatics tools to explore and analyze FT-MS data in a robust and reproducible manner.
Methods: FREDA is an interactive web application developed to enable spectrometrists to format, process, and explore their FT-MS data without the need for statistical programming expertise.

Prompt emergence from general anesthesia is crucial after neurosurgical procedures, such as craniotomies, to facilitate timely neurological evaluation for identification of intraoperative complications. Delayed emergence can be caused by residual anesthetics, metabolic imbalances, and intracranial pathology, for which an eye examination can provide early diagnostic clues. The sunset sign (or setting sun sign), characterized by a downward deviation of the eyes, can be an early indicator of raised intracranial pressure (ICP) or midbrain compression, as is commonly observed in states of hydrocephalus or periaqueductal or tectal plate dysfunction.

Background: In goats, acute and chronic respiratory infections are often characterized by a rapidly progressing clinical course with little opportunity to develop an effective antibiotic therapy.
Aim: This study aimed to identify spp. in pneumonic goats, assess its antibiotic susceptibility, and confirm the molecular phylogenetics of spp.
