The frontalis muscle is a focal point of many relaxation training programmes, so the effects of varying frontalis tension levels on concurrent task performance need consideration when recommending in situ muscle relaxation. Two experiments are reported; performance on a discrimination task was examined across high, moderate, and low induced frontalis tension. When length of exposure to the task stimuli was unlimited, accuracy of discrimination was affected by tension; when exposure was limited, reaction time was affected. In both experiments the high frontalis tension resulted in better performance than the other levels. Implications for the practice of in situ relaxation are considered.

Subcutaneous indwelling of nonabsorbable threads for tissue fixation and tension reduction is often used in plastic surgery and is applied in breast reduction surgery, umbilicoplasty, and in frontalis muscle lifting for congenital ptosis. However, in a few cases, exposure of the indwelling thread necessitates its removal. Exposure of the indwelling threads mostly occurs due to exposure of the knots.

Facial nerve (FN) injury is a significant risk during complex cranial reconstruction surgeries, especially in revision cases where normal anatomy is distorted. The authors introduce a technique to mitigate FN injury, including preoperative FN mapping, intraoperative FN mapping, and continuous FN monitoring. Preoperative mapping uses a handheld ball-tip stimulator to elicit compound muscle action potentials (CMAP) in the frontalis muscle.

Introduction: Infrared thermography has the potential to help assess human head and neck muscles, as thermal variation measurements due to muscle imbalance can contribute to the evaluation and therapeutic follow-up of various clinical conditions in the field of health.
Objective: This study investigated, with a scoping review, the use of infrared thermography in complementary assessments of human head and neck muscles to determine the extent of research on the topic, what methodologies are used in thermal assessment and thermographic analysis, what regions are assessed, and what results are expected in thermography.
Methods: LILACS, MEDLINE, SciELO, and Web of Science were the databases searched to identify articles published on the topic, with no restriction of language or time of publication.
