One of the most important research areas in case-control Genome-Wide Association Studies is to determine how the effect of a genotype varies across the environment or to measure the gene-environment interaction (G × E). We consider the scenario when some of the "healthy" controls actually have the disease and when the frequency of these latent cases varies by the environmental variable of interest. In this scenario, performing logistic regression with the clinically diagnosed disease status as an outcome variable and will result in biased estimates of G × E interaction. Here, we derive a general theoretical approximation to the bias in the estimates of the G × E interaction and show, through extensive simulation, that this approximation is accurate in finite samples. Moreover, we apply this approximation to evaluate the bias in the effect estimates of the genetic variants related to mitochondrial proteins a large-scale prostate cancer study.

This work provides a statistical analysis of four different approaches suggested in the literature for the estimation of an unknown concentration based on data collected using the standard addition method. These approaches are the conventional extrapolation approach, the interpolation approach, inverse regression, and the normalization approach. Our recently developed approach based on the local coupled-cluster with single, double, and perturbative triple excitation [LCCSD(T)] model gives very efficient means to compute the ideal-gas enthalpies of formation. The expanded uncertainty (95% confidence) of the method is about 3 kJ·mol for medium-sized compounds, comparable to typical experimental measurements. Larger compounds of interest often exhibit many conformations that can significantly differ in intramolecular interactions.

Objectives: The End-of-Life Dementia-Comfort Assessment in Dying (EOLD-CAD) scale is one of the few outcome instruments designed to capture symptom burden and well-being among nursing home residents with dementia; however, psychometric evaluations of the EOLD-CAD are limited. Although the instrument is often used to assess outcomes prospectively, it was originally developed and tested as a postmortem assessment.
