We present a simple approach for orbital space partitioning to be employed in the projection-based embedding theory developed by Goodpaster and co-workers [ Manby et al. J. Chem. Theory Comput. 2012 , 8 , 2564 ]. Once the atoms are assigned to the desired subspaces, the molecular orbitals are projected onto the atomic orbitals centered on active atoms and then singular value decomposed. The right singular vectors are used to rotate the initial molecular orbitals, taking the largest gap in the singular values spectrum to define the most suitable partition of the occupied orbital space. This scheme is free from numerical parameters, contrary to the Mulliken charge threshold or the completeness criterion previously used. The performance of this new prescription is assessed in a test set of several distinct reactions, the deprotonation of decanoic acid, the Diels-Alder reaction of 1,3-butadiene and octadecanonaene, the torsional potential of a retinal derivative, and the critical points along the reaction coordinate of an example of the Menshutkin S2 reaction inside a carbon nanotube.

The interactions between the carbon skeleton and the metal atoms of a binary transition metal carbide (BTMC) are particular interest for industrial applications with openning physics and chemitry questions, especially in magnetoelectric (ME) functional materials and cemented carbides. Chromium and carbon BTMCs are a series of intermetallic compounds with typical chemical formulas and sharepolycrystalline powder c somehromium special characteristics.and carbon as precursors, In this paper, and synthesized s we usedingle-phase bluk Cr7C3 (orthorhombic, with space group: Pnma) with high density and good crystallinity by means of high-temperature and high-pressure quenching method (HTHPQM).

Spaceflight-induced multi-organ dysfunction affects the health of astronauts and the safety of in-orbit flight. However, the effect of microgravity on the kidney and the underlying mechanisms are unknown. In the current study, we used a hindlimb unweighting (HU) animal model to simulate microgravity and employed histological analysis, ischemia-reperfusion experiments, renal ultrasonography, bioinformatics analysis, isometric force measurement, and other molecular experimental settings to evaluate the effects of microgravity on the kidneys and the underlying mechanisms involved in this transition.

In this paper we propose an information encoding method based on a segmented vortex beam. The segmented vortex beam with a single uniform-intensity ring and a combination of multiple topological charges is designed for information encoding. The radius of the beam can be designed to be arbitrary, with multiple orbital angular momentum states superimposed along the ring.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is a powerful method for exploring molecular electronic structure by exciting core electrons into higher unoccupied molecular orbitals. In this study, we present the first integration of the spin-unrestricted similarity-transformed equation-of-motion coupled cluster method (CVS-USTEOM-CCSD) for core-excited and core-ionized states into the ORCA quantum chemistry package. Using the core-valence separation (CVS) approach, we evaluate the accuracy of CVS-USTEOM-CCSD across 13 open-shell organic systems, covering over 20 core excitations with diverse spin multiplicities (doublet, triplet, and quartet).

A 6-year-old castrated male mixed breed dog presented to the "Louisiana State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital &-anonymized for review" ophthalmology service with marked exophthalmos and lagophthalmos of the left eye and soft tissue swelling medial to the zygomatic arch. A computed tomography (CT) scan was performed, and it revealed a well-marginated, lobulated, homogenously fat density involving the retrobulbar space. Preliminary results of a fine-needle aspirate (FNA) and biopsy were not conclusive, and a modified transfrontal orbitotomy was performed to remove the mass.
