This work presents the synthesis, structural characterization and biological affinity of the newly synthesized copper(II) complexes with the first antibacterial quinolone drug nalidixic acid (nal) or N-donor ligand 2,2'‑dipyridylamine (bipyam). [Cu(II)(nal)(bipyam)Cl], (2) reveals a distorted square pyramidal based geometry in Cu(II) atom confirmed by X-ray crystallography technique. The theoretical stabilities and optimized structures of the complex were obtained from DFT calculations. The ability of the complexes to bind with calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) were investigated by electronic absorption, fluorescence, circular dichroism, and viscosity measurements techniques. The experimental results reveal that the complexes strongly interact with CT DNA via intercalative mode but complex 2 exhibits the highest affinity giving K=3.91±0.13×10, M. The fluorescence spectroscopy measurements show that both complexes have the superior ability to the replacement of EtBr from DNA-bound EtBr solution and bind to DNA through intercalative mode. Both complex also shows the superior affinity towards proteins with comparatively high binding constant values which have been further revealed by fluorescence spectroscopy measurements. Molecular docking analysis indicates that the interaction of the complexes and proteins are stabilized by hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction. Furthermore, the results of in vitro cytotoxicity reveal that the complex 2 has excellent cytotoxicity than 1 against human breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7).

Nine metal complexes formed by three symmetric β-diketonates (, acetylacetonate (), 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-acetylacetonate (), and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-dionate ()) and three metal ions (with three different coordination geometries, , Be - tetrahedral, Cu - square planar, and Pb - "swing" square pyramidal) were investigated. The study combines structural analyses, vibrational spectroscopic techniques, and quantum chemical calculations with the aim of bridging crystal structure, electronic structure, molecular topology, and far-infrared (FIR) spectroscopic characteristics. The effect of intramolecular interactions on the structural, electronic, and spectroscopic features is the center of this study.

Copper isotopes and their complexes are intensively studied due to their high potential for applications in radiodiagnosis and radiotherapy. Here, we study the Cu complex of 1,8-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-cyclam (HL), which forms an unexpected variety of isomers differing in the mutual orientation of the substituents on the cyclam nitrogen atoms, the protonation of the phenolate pendant, and the ligand denticity. The interconversion of the isomers is rather slow, which made the isolation, identification and investigation of some of the individual species possible.

In the endocrine system, anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is extremely aggressive since it inhibits the majority of medications and treatments. Therefore, there is an immediate demand to identify new treatment approaches or drugs to deal with ATC. Recently, amino acid Schiff base copper complexes have received great attention due to their excellent anti-tumor activity.

Two novel complexes, [Cu()Cl] and [Zn()Cl], were synthesized from 1,1'-[(3-fluoro-phen-yl)methyl-ene]bis-[3-(3-fluoro-phen-yl)imidazo[1,5-]pyridine] (), and copper(II) and zinc(II) chloride, respectively. The structures of these complexes were confirmed using ESI-MS, IR and H NMR spectra. The results reveal mononuclear structures in which the central metal atoms are coordinated by two N atoms from the imidazole rings and two Cl ligands.
