The purpose of this study was to identify cardiac biomarkers of disordered eating. Mean R wave amplitude (mV), mean T wave amplitude (mV), QRS interval (sec), QTc interval (sec), and Tpeak-Tend interval (sec) were assessed via electrocardiography among women with clinical (n = 53) and subclinical (n = 56) eating disorder symptoms versus asymptomatic controls (n = 32). QRS and QTc intervals were significantly longer and mean T and R wave amplitudes significantly lower among women with clinical symptoms compared to asymptomatic controls. QTc interval length was significantly longer and mean R wave amplitude was significantly lower among women with subclinical symptoms versus asymptomatic controls. Decreased mean R wave amplitude yielded a comparable effect size as QTc when differentiating between asymptomatic and subclinical groups and a larger effect size than QTc when differentiating between asymptomatic and clinical groups, representing a promising clinical biomarker.

The field of chiral nanoparticles is rapidly expanding, yet measuring the chirality of single nano-objects remains a challenging endeavor. Here, we report a technique to detect chiro-optical effects in single plasmonic nanoparticles by means of phase-sensitive polarization-resolved four-wave mixing interferometric microscopy. Beyond conventional circular dichroism, the method is sensitive to the particle polarizability, in amplitude and phase.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the leading cause of blindness among working-age adults, and inflammation and oxidative stress contribute to DR development. However, no effective treatments are currently approved for DR. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of SMTP-44D-a Stachybotrys microspora-derived compound with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties-on DR in in vivo and in vitro models.

Sexually mature females of multiple mammalian species were previously reported to have increased peripheral auditory sensitivity, often measured as higher auditory brainstem response (ABR) wave I amplitude compared to males. Here, we determined potential hormonal and genetic (i.e.

We propose a general approach to quasi-deform the Korteweg-De Vries (KdV) equation by deforming its Hamiltonian. The standard abelianization process based on the inherent sl(2) loop algebra leads to an infinite number of anomalous conservation laws, that yield conserved charges for definite space-time parity of the solution. Judicious choice of the deformed Hamiltonian yields an integrable system with scaled parameters as well as a hierarchy of deformed systems, some of which possibly are quasi-integrable.

Shear Wave Elastography (SWE) is an imaging technique that detects shear waves generated by tissue excited by Acoustic Radiation Force (ARF), and characterizes the mechanical properties of soft tissue by analyzing the propagation velocity of shear wave. ARF induces a change in energy density through the nonlinear propagation of ultrasound waves, which drives the tissue to generate shear waves. However, the amplitude of shear waves generated by ARF is weak, and the shear waves are strongly attenuated in vivo.
