We examined whether perceptions of being bullied during middle and high school were associated with depressive, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms during college. We also examined whether perceived social support (PSS) mediated the association between bullying and symptoms, and explored whether parental, peer, or other sources of support was most beneficial. Undergraduates ( = 270) from an urban commuter college in the Northeast participated during Spring 2013 or Fall 2015. Psychometrically sound self-report measures were used to assess symptoms and perceptions of bullying and social support. As hypothesized, bullying was associated with more symptoms, and PSS significantly mediated the associations between bullying and symptoms of PTSD and depression. The college years provide another opportunity to address the effects of middle and high school bullying. Receiving current support for past bullying is beneficial but is not enough, college counseling services are needed to reduce symptoms.

Metastatic Sclerosing Epithelioid Fibrosarcoma at Diagnosis: A Case Report.

Cureus

December 2024

Pathological Anatomy, Instituto Português de Oncologia do Porto Francisco Gentil, Porto, PRT.

Sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma (SEF) is a rare and aggressive neoplasm composed of epithelioid cells arranged in strands and nests embedded in a highly sclerotic collagenous stroma. We report a case of a 36-year-old man who started with lumbar pain, with extension to both legs, night sweats, and weight loss. He underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the lumbar spine; computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis; and [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) scan.

The differential diagnoses for patients presenting with right iliac fossa pain are broad, with appendicitis almost always on the top of the list. Although rare, diverticulosis of the appendix, complicated by inflammation, should be considered in these patients. We report a case of a middle-aged female with right iliac fossa pain with a high inflammatory marker.

Hyaluronic acid/silk fibroin nanoparticles loaded with methotrexate for topical treatment of psoriasis.

Int J Pharm X

June 2025

State Key Laboratory of Resource Insects, Key Laboratory for Sericulture Biology and Genetic Breeding, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, College of Sericulture, Textile and Biomass Sciences, Yibin Academy, Southwest University, Chongqing 400715, China.

Systemic administration of methotrexate (MTX), widely regarded as one of the most effective treatments for psoriasis, poses significant challenges due to its high toxicity, limited solubility, and potential for adverse effects. Consequently, developing a topical form of MTX may offer a safer and more effective strategy for psoriasis management. Silk fibroin (SF), a protein-based biomacromolecule, has shown considerable promise as a nanocarrier for sustained and targeted drug delivery, owing to its exceptional physicochemical and biological properties.

Clinical trials have shown favorable effects of exercise on frailty, supporting physical activity (PA) as a treatment and prevention strategy. Proteomics studies suggest that PA alters levels of many proteins, some of which may function as molecules in the biological processes underlying frailty. However, these studies have focused on structured exercise programs or cross-sectional PA-protein associations.
