Problem: To study the balance of circulating heat shock protein (HSP)60 and HSP70 in pre-term delivery.

Method Of Study: A two-stage approach was used. At first stage, we run retrospective analysis of prospective collected clinical data, and at a second stage, we studied an animal model of pre-term delivery (PTD). Blood samples were collected for prenatal screening in 3629 women. Samples from 23 women with miscarriage before gestational week 21 and 53 well-matched comparators for age, body mass index, parity, and previous miscarriage with full-term pregnancy were depicted. Women with risk factors were excluded. HSP60 and HSP70 were measured by an enzyme immunosorbent assay. PTD was induced after injection of low dose of bacterial lipopolysaccharide; mice were killed for the measurement of HSP60 and HSP70 in blood and tissues. The study endpoint was the association of the HSP60 to HSP70 ratio to miscarriage.

Results: A ratio >6 could distinguish between women who will miscarry from women with term pregnancies with sensitivity 60%, specificity 81.8%, positive predictive value 81.8%, and negative predictive value 60% (OR: 6.750, P = 0.025). Mice of the LPS-group PTD had this ratio significantly increased in maternal serum, placentas, and embryos compared to the sham-operation group. Gene expression of hsp60/70 remained in tissues unaltered.

Conclusion: A HSP60/HSP70 ratio equal to or more than 6 until gestational week 12 is accompanied with great likelihood for miscarriage. A similar ratio applies in an animal model of PTD induced by low-dose LPS.

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are a kind of molecular chaperone that helps protein folding, which is closely related to cancer. However, the association between HSPs and clear cell renal clear cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is uncertain. We explored the prognostic value of HSP110, HSP90, HSP70 and HSP60 families in ccRCC and their role in tumor immune microenvironment.

As many proteins prioritize functionality over constancy of structure, a proteome is the shortest stave in the Liebig's barrel of cell sustainability. In this regard, both prokaryotes and eukaryotes possess abundant machinery supporting the quality of the proteome in healthy and stressful conditions. This machinery, namely chaperones, assists in folding, refolding, and the utilization of client proteins.

Drought is a persistent and serious threat to crop yield and quality. The identification and functional characterization of drought tolerance-related genes is thus vital for efforts to support the genetic improvement of drought-tolerant crops. Barley is highly adaptable and renowned for its robust stress resistance, making it an ideal subject for efforts to explore genes related to drought tolerance.

Cadmium Exposure Induces Inflammation Through Oxidative Stress-Mediated Activation of the NF-κB Signaling Pathway and Causes Heat Shock Response in a Piglet Testis.

Cadmium (Cd), recognized as an environmental toxin, can cause injury to the testis in humans and animals. Oxidative stress (OS) can trigger an inflammatory response by promoting the activation of nuclear factor kappa beta (NF-κB) signaling pathway. Meanwhile, inflammation can lead to the occurrence of heat shock reaction.

Article Synopsis
  • Heat shock proteins (Hsps) are crucial molecular chaperones that help plants respond to environmental stress, with a study identifying 192 Hsp genes spread across all chromosomes, especially concentrated on chromosomes 1, 2, 3, and 5.
  • These Hsp genes are classified into six subfamilies and show different expression patterns: some have high expression in many tissues, some are tissue-specific, and others have generally low expression.
  • Using CRISPR/Cas9 to create knockout mutants, the study found that under high-temperature conditions, mutants had reduced yield and altered rice quality, highlighting the significance of Hsp genes in rice yield and quality formation.
