Starlike branched polyacrylamides (SB-PAMs) were synthesized using reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer copolymerization of acrylamide (AM) and ,'-methylenebis(acrylamide) (BisAM) in the presence of 3-(((benzylthio) carbonothioyl)thio)propanoic acid as a chain transfer agent, followed by chain extension with AM. The amount of incorporated BisAM in the core and the amount of AM during chain extension have been systematically varied. Core structures were achieved by incorporation of total monomer ratios [BisAM]/[AM] ranging from 0.010 to 0.143. The obtained macromolecular chain transfer agents had weight average molecular weights in the range of (2.2-7.8) × 10 Da and polydispersity indices between 1.2 and 15.1. Kinetic experiments were performed to investigate the extent of control of polymerization. Finally, the expansion of the core structures by chain-extension polymerization resulted in the successful preparation of high molecular weight SB-PAMs with apparent molecular weights ranging from 19 to 1250 kDa.

Study Question: Are live birth rates (LBRs) per woman following flexible progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (fPPOS) treatment non-inferior to LBRs per woman following the conventional GnRH-antagonist protocol in expected suboptimal responders undergoing freeze-all cycles in assisted reproduction treatment?
Summary Answer: In women expected to have a suboptimal response, the 12-month likelihood of live birth with the fPPOS treatment did not achieve the non-inferiority criteria when compared to the standard GnRH antagonist protocol for IVF/ICSI treatment with a freeze-all strategy.
What Is Known Already: The standard PPOS protocol is effective for ovarian stimulation, where medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) is conventionally administered in the early follicular phase for ovulatory suppression. Recent retrospective cohort studies on donor cycles have shown the potential to prevent premature ovulation and maintain oocyte yields by delaying the administration of MPA until the midcycle (referred to as fPPOS), similar to GnRH antagonist injections.

Currently, bacterial classification at the species level relies on the 95-96% average nucleotide identity (ANI) value that is known to be equivalent to a 70% digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) value. However, during the routine identification of bacteria in the uteri of camels with a history of conception failure, we found that four out of the seven strains (2298A, 2569A, 2652, 2571B, 1103A, 2571A, and 335C) could not be assigned to any valid species. Furthermore, a 70% dDDH value did not correspond to a 95-96% ANI value in strain 2569A.

On 11 February 2020, the prevalent outbreak of COVID-19, a coronavirus illness, was declared a global pandemic. Since then, nearly seven million people have died and over 765 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported. The goal of this study is to develop a diagnostic tool for detecting COVID-19 infections more efficiently.

BACKGROUND Human metapneumovirus (hMPV), classified in the Pneumoviridae family, is primarily known for causing lower respiratory tract infections in children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. However, rare instances have shown that hMPV can also affect other systems, such as the cardiovascular system, leading to conditions like myocarditis. CASE REPORT We describe a 68-year-old man with a medical history of diabetes, hypertension, and liver cirrhosis who presented to the Emergency Department (ED) exhibiting symptoms of fever, cough, and dyspnea.

Cytokine storm is a hallmark for acute systemic inflammatory disease like sepsis. Intrinsic microbiome-derived short-chain fatty acid (SCFAs) like acetate modulates immune cell function and metabolism has been well studied. However, it remains poorly investigated about the effects and the underlying mechanism of exogenous acetate in acute inflammation like sepsis.
