Alcoholic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (AIONFH) is caused by long-term heavy drinking, which leads to abnormal alcohol and lipid metabolism, resulting in femoral head tissue damage, and then pathological necrosis of femoral head tissue. If not treated in time in clinical practice, it will seriously affect the quality of life of patients and even require hip replacement to treat alcoholic femoral head necrosis. This study will confirm whether M2 macrophage exosome (M2-Exo) miR-122 mediates alcohol-induced BMSCs osteogenic differentiation, ultimately leading to the inhibition of femoral head necrosis.

Pivotal roles of Plasmodium falciparum lysophospholipid acyltransferase 1 in cell cycle progression and cytostome internalization.

Department of Cellular Architecture Studies, Division of Shionogi Global Infectious Diseases Division, Institute of Tropical Medicine (NEKKEN), Nagasaki University, Nagasaki, Japan.

The rapid intraerythrocytic replication of Plasmodium falciparum, a deadly species of malaria parasite, requires a quick but constant supply of phospholipids to support marked cell membrane expansion. In the malarial parasite, many enzymes functioning in phospholipid synthesis pathway have not been identified or characterized. Here, we identify P.

Chalcogen dihydrobenzofuran compounds as potential neuroprotective agents: an in vitro and in silico biological investigation.

January 2025

Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Neuropharmacology (LABIONEM), Graduate Program in Biochemistry and Bioprospecting (PPGBBio), Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Food Sciences Center (CCQFA), Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel), 96010-900 RS, Brazil. Electronic address:

Oxidative stress arises from an imbalance between reactive species (RS) production and the antioxidant defense, increasing the brain susceptibility to neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases. Besides, changes in the expression or activity of neurotransmitter metabolism enzymes, such as monoamine oxidases (MAO), are also associated with mental disorders, including depression. Considering this, antioxidant and MAO-A activity inhibitory potential of six 2,3-chalcogenodihydrobenzofurans (2,3-DHBF) was investigated through in vitro and in silico tests.
