As the main protein forming the vascular extracellular matrix, collagen has a weak antigenicity, making it an attractive candidate for coatings of vascular grafts. In order to bring antithrombotic properties to collagen for obtaining suitable blood compatibility of surfaces and further bioactive molecule carrying capacity, heparinization appears as a method of choice. Thus, in this article, pH-driven self-assembly was used to form collagen-based hydrogels with physical incorporation of heparins, especially low molecular weight heparin or unfractionated heparin at 1 IU/mL and 6 IU/mL.

Introduction: 4-methyl umbelliferon (4MU) is a coumarin with anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombotic, enzyme-inhibiting, and antioxidant properties. Despite the benefits of the compound, it is eliminated very quickly from the blood circulation through the liver, kidney, and digestive system due to its hydrophobic properties. In this study we proposed to improve the durability of 4MU by binding of 4MU to poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) and graphene oxide (GO).

Background: Hemorrhoidal disease (HD) is associated with substantial economic burden and negative effects on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The aCute HaemORrhoids treatment with MESoglycan (CHORMES) study aims to evaluate the effects of orally administered mesoglycan, a natural preparation of glycosaminoglycans with antithrombotic and profibrinolytic properties, as an acute treatment in patients with HD.
Methods: CHORMES is a phase 2, double-blind, randomized controlled trial being conducted at two centers in Italy.

Venoms have primarily been used to prepare antivenoms for the treatment of snake bites, but they have constituents that might serve other medical needs. These include metalloproteinases, serine proteases, phospholipases, and C-type lectin-like proteins. Some of the products that have been prepared from venoms are procoagulants employed as topical hemostatics, and either applied directly to bleeding wounds or used as adjuncts to surgical procedures to assist in controlling blood loss.
