Purpose: This study compared the efficacy and safety of Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) implantation versus suprachoroidal silicone tube (SST) implantation after the injection of bevacizumab into the anterior chamber in patients with neovascular glaucoma.

Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to undergo AGV or SST implantation. Bevacizumab was injected into the anterior chamber at a dosage of 1.25 mg/0.1 mL, 1 week before surgery. Intraocular pressure (IOP) control, complication, and success rates were compared between the groups. Success was defined as a final IOP > 5 mmHg, < 22 mmHg with or without any antiglaucoma drug.

Results: A total of 23 patients were enrolled in the study, including 13 (56.5%) in the AGV group (group 1) and 10 (43.5%) in the SST group (group 2). The mean baseline IOP was 42.0 ± 9.1 mmHg in group 1 and 39.5 ± 10 mmHg in group 2 (p > 0.05). The mean IOP was 16.9 ± 7.0 mmHg in group 1 and 12.5 ± 6.7 mmHg in group 2 on the first day after surgery. After a mean follow-up period of 19.4 ± 5.2 months, success was achieved in 12 (92.3%) patients in group 1 and in 1 (10%) patient in group 2. There was a statistically significant difference in terms of the success rate between groups (p < 0.05). Complications included hyphema in three (23%) patients, obstruction of the AGV tube by iris tissue in one (7.7%) patient, and tube exposure in one patient (7.7%) in group 1. Suprachoroidal silicone tube dislocation to the anterior chamber was observed in one (10%) patient in group 2.

Conclusion: AGV implantation after the injection of bevacizumab into the anterior chamber had a higher success rate than SST implantation. Complications were seen more frequently in the AGV group.

Background: Faricimab is predominantlyprescribed for conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD),diabetic macular edema (DME), and macular edema related to retinal veinocclusion (RVO-ME). Currently, a notable absence of large-scale, real-worldstudies focusing on the adverse reactions of faricimab exists.

Methods: Thisstudy assesses the side effects of faricimab by analyzing reports of adverseevents (AEs) from the FDA's AEReporting System (FAERS) database.

Predictors of anterior chamber angle status at the time of neovascular glaucoma diagnosis.

Am J Ophthalmol Case Rep

December 2024

Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago, IL, USA.

Purpose: To identify clinical features which may predict the angle status of a large cohort of NVG eyes at the time of diagnosis.

Observations: Chart review was performed for all NVG eyes from 2010 to 2022. Complete angle closure was defined as having >75 % PAS, partial angle closure as having 1-75 % PAS, and open angles as having 0 % PAS.

Purpose: To report a case of corneoscleral juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) with progressive anterior segment involvement refractory to topical steroids.

Observations: A 4-month-old male was referred for a new-onset subconjunctival lesion in the right eye. He was found to have a thickened, yellow corneoscleral lesion and hyphema, presumed to be ocular JXG.

Introduction: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR) is the gold standard for treating ACL injuries, particularly in soccer players who are at a high risk of knee injury. While professional athletes often return to sport (RTS) within 7-10 months after ACLR, non-elite players experience significant delays. There is a need to investigate neuromuscular deficits and functional asymmetries in the non-elite group, which may persist even after clearance for RTS.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between axial length (AL) and retinal oxygen dynamic parameters in adult patients.

Methods: This was an observational cross-sectional study with 79 Chinese adults with myopia aged 18 to 37 years. All participants underwent AL measurements, cycloplegic refraction, and other ophthalmic examinations.
