Background: The halo vest is widely used throughout the world to manage craniovertebral and cervical instabilities. It can be used for postoperative immobilization or as an alternative to surgical fixation.
Method: In this paper we present some cases of severe complications from our own practice and review the literature on halo complications.
Results: Like any therapeutic manoeuvre, halo placement may be followed by various complications. In the meantime, modern techniques of fixation offer safe and immediate stabilization.
Conclusion: The halo vest remains a formidable method for cervical immobilization. However, it should not be used a priori instead of surgery.

Attempts to dissociate electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) therapeutic efficacy from cognitive side effects of ECT include modifying electrode placement, but traditional electrode placements employing 2 large electrodes are inherently nonfocal, limiting the ability to selectively engage targets associated with clinical benefit while avoiding nontargets associated with adverse side effects. Limited focality represents a technical limitation of conventional ECT, and there is growing evidence that the spatial distribution of the ECT electric fields induced in the brain drives efficacy and side effects. Computational models can be used to predict brain current flow patterns for existing and novel ECT montages.

In October 2023, a Connecticut grower contacted The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station about a field of strawberry plants ( × ) (cv. Ruby June) showing symptoms of severe leaf spotting and visual wilting. Upon visiting the field, leaves had lesions with a diffuse black halo and a light brown center and wilting symptoms, which appeared driven by petiole lesions and presented as dark brown stripes with a reddish-purple halo.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of preoperative halo-gravity traction (HGT) with subsequent growing rod (GR) treatment in patients with severe early-onset scoliosis (EOS).
Methods: The authors retrospectively reviewed a cohort of patients with severe EOS who had received preoperative HGT with subsequent GR treatment at their center between January 2008 and January 2020. Patients with a Cobb angle in the coronal or sagittal plane that was > 90° were included.
