AI Article Synopsis

  • The study analyzed 76 patients with periprosthetic femoral fractures after total hip replacement, focusing on trends from 2006-2016.
  • Findings revealed that elderly women are more likely to experience these fractures, often due to traumatic events, and that they require more complex surgical interventions for treatment.
  • To reduce the incidence of these fractures, the study suggests improved preoperative diagnostics and tailored educational programs for healthcare professionals.

Article Abstract

In our study we analyzed 76 patients (78 hip joints) with periprosthetic femoral fractures after total hip replacement treated at Privolzhsky Federal Research Medical Centre in 2006-2016 period. We outlined specific features of periprosthetic fractures in elderly patients such as women having it more often, arise due to traumatic causes. Also elderly patients require more elaborate hardware such as cerclage wires, periprosthetic plates and additional surgical techniques such as extended trochanteric osteotomy to successfully treat periprosthetic fractures. Thorough preoperative diagnostics and planning, special educational courses which consider age-related factors could help decrease periprosthetic fractures incidence in elderly patients undergoing total hip replacement.

Purpose: To identify key molecular components within the femoroacetabular impingement hip and compare the findings between male and female patients across varying age groups.

Methods: All patients undergoing hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) without hip dysplasia were included. During hip arthroscopy, performed at University of Wisconsin Health, loose articular cartilage, excess synovium, damaged labral tissue, and minimal adipose tissue were debrided only as needed for visualization and tissue repair purposes and collected.

Simulated Cam Morphology of the Hip Changes Sacroiliac Motion During Hip Motion and Loading in a Cadaveric Model.

Arthrosc Sports Med Rehabil

December 2024

Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, U.S.A.

Purpose: To determine the relationship between cam morphology of the hip and ipsilateral sacroiliac motion compared to the native hip in a cadaveric model.

Methods: A simulated cam state was created using a 3-dimensional printed cam secured to the head-neck junction of 5 cadaveric hips. Hips were studied using a computed tomography-based optic metrology system and a 6 degree-of-freedom robot to exert an internal rotation torque at 3 different torque levels (6 N-m, 12 N-m, 18 N-m).

Purpose: To determine the patient demographics and incidence of hip arthroscopy after total hip arthroplasty using the PearlDiver database.

Methods: This is a retrospective study of patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty and arthroscopic hip surgery. The PearlDiver Claims Database was queried using Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes for records from 2010 to 2021.

Background: The pelvis is one of the most common areas for metastatic bone disease. We recently described the use of a minimally invasive percutaneous screw fixation of metastatic non-periacetabular pelvic lesions, with excellent results.

Description: The procedure can be completed in a standard operating theater without the need for special instruments.

Background: Osteoporosis is characteristically defined as a decrease in bone density and mass, accompanied by the deterioration of bone structure, which increases bone fragility and the risk of fractures. Osteoporosis frequently develops with age. In high-risk populations, oxidative damage is a common pathological condition.
