Isoselagintamarlin A (1), a selaginellin analogue featured a rare benzofuran unit, was isolated from Selaginella tamariscina. Its complete structural assignment was established through a combination of high-field NMR technique and biomimetic synthesis. Notably, isoselagintamarlin A (1) was successfully synthesized via sequential oxidations and intramolecular cyclization.

Quantifying the Chirality of Vibrational Modes in Helical Molecular Chains.

Chiral phonons have been proposed to be involved in various physical phenomena, yet the chirality of molecular normal modes has not been well defined mathematically. Here we examine two approaches for assigning and quantifying the chirality of molecular normal modes in double-helical molecular wires with various levels of twist. First, associating with each normal mode a structure obtained by imposing the corresponding motion on a common origin, we apply the continuous chirality measure (CCM) to quantitatively assess the relationship between the chirality-weighted normal mode spectrum and the chirality of the underlying molecular structure.

Periodontitis, a prevalent and costly oral disease, remains incompletely understood in its etiopathogenesis. The conventional model attributes it to pathogenic bacteria, but emerging evidence suggests dysbiosis involving bacteria, herpesviruses, and an exaggerated host immune response. Among herpesviruses, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) closely links to severe periodontitis, yet the mechanisms underlying EBV-related pathogenesis remain elusive.

Background: Multifrequency MR elastography (mMRE) enables noninvasive quantification of renal stiffness in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Manual segmentation of the kidneys on mMRE is time-consuming and prone to increased interobserver variability.

Purpose: To evaluate the performance of mMRE combined with automatic segmentation in assessing CKD severity.

The synthesis of perfluoroalkylated fullerenes (PFAFs) holds significant importance due to their enhanced molecular stability, increased lipophilicity, and high electron affinity. Herein, we report a copper-catalyzed multicomponent reaction conducted under aerobic conditions, which enables the production of highly soluble PFAFs with half-wave reduction potentials similar to those of C. Furthermore, the challenges posed by C-F coupling in carbon signal assignment were addressed through fluorine-decoupled carbon spectroscopy, facilitating precise structural characterization of the perfluoroalkyl moieties.
