Pollution of microplastics (MPs) has been drastically threating human health, however, whose elimination from the environment by current approaches is inefficient due to their high molecular weight, stronghydrophobicity and stable covalent bonds. Herein, we report a novel and highly-efficient route to degrade MPs contaminants through synergistically piezocatalytic and Fenton-like activation of HO by a ferroelectric Bi(BiFe)O catalyst under ultrasound treatment. For 10 g/L polyethylene terephthalate microplastics (PET-MPs), the synergistic strategy reached a 28.

The pervasive presence of microplastics (MPs) in infant formula and care products has emerged as a significant and underappreciated risk to public health. Notably, infants are at an elevated risk due to their underdeveloped intestinal defenses and liver detoxification capabilities, factors that could heighten their vulnerability to MPs. This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of the health implications linked to polystyrene microplastics (PSMPs) exposure during early life, examining both environmentally plausible and elevated levels.

The escalating concern surrounding microplastic (MP) pollution necessitates urgent attention and the development of rapid techniques for quantifying extremely low concentrations. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has emerged as a promising method due to its simplicity, high sensitivity, and rapid quantification capabilities. Herein, the efficacy of gold-silver alloy nanoparticles (3DPAu-Ag) substrates for detecting poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and polystyrene (PS) MPs is investigated.

The prevalence of microplastics (MPs, <5 mm) in natural environments presents a formidable global environmental threat MPs can be found from the Arctic to Antarctica, including glaciers. Despite their widespread distribution, studies on MP accumulation in apex predators inhabiting Polar Regions remain limited. The objective of this study was to conduct a comprehensive examination, for the first time, of MP bioaccumulation in various organs and tissue of Adélie penguins.

More than 8 billion tons of plastic waste has been generated, posing severe environmental consequences and health risks. Due to prolonged exposure, microplastic particles are found in human blood and other bodily fluids. Despite a lack of toxicity studies regarding microplastics, harmful effects for humans seem plausible and cannot be excluded.
