Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) with hexagonal barium titanate nanocrystals (h-BTNCs) in amorphous matrix as one of the bilayer dielectric systems have been fabricated on a highly flexible 10 μm thick poly(ethylene terephthalate) substrate. The device current and mobility remain constant up to a bending radius of 4 mm, which makes the substrate suitable for wearable e-skin applications. h-BTNC films are found to be highly temperature-sensitive, and the OFETs designed based on this material showed ultraprecision measurement (∼4.3 mK), low power (∼1 μW at 1.2 V operating voltage), and ultrafast response (∼24 ms) in sensing temperature over a range of 20-45 °C continuously. The sensors are highly stable around body temperature and work at various extreme conditions, such as under water and in solutions of different pH values and various salt concentrations. These properties make this sensor unique and highly suitable for various healthcare and other applications, wherein a small variation of temperature around this temperature range is required to be measured at an ultrahigh speed.

As the keystones of molecular electronics, high-quality nanodielectric layers are challenging to assemble due to the strictest criteria for their reliability and uniformity over a large area. Here, we report a strained poly(4-vinylphenol) monolayer, ready to be stacked to form defect-free wafer-scale nanodielectrics. The thickness of the nanodielectrics can be precisely adjusted in integral multiples of the 1.

The in-depth research on the charge transport properties of BN-embedded polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (BN-PAHs) still lags far behind studies of their emitting properties. Herein, we report the successfully synthesis of novel ladder-type BN-PAHs (BCNL1 and BCNL2) featuring a highly ordered BC3N2 acene unit, achieved via a nitrogen-directed tandem C-H borylation. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis unambiguously revealed their unique and compact herringbone packing structures.

Conjugated polymers (CPs) with polar side chains can conduct electronic and ionic charges simultaneously, making them promising for bioelectronics, electrocatalysis and energy storage. Recent work showed that adding alkyl spacers between CP backbones and polar side chains improved electronic charge carrier mobility, reduced swelling and enhanced stability, without compromising ion transport. However, how alkyl spacers impact polymer backbone conformation and, subsequently, electronic properties remain unclear.

Two Is Better than One: How the Addition of Multiple Biodegradable Polymers Can Improve Organic Thin-Film Transistor Performance.

Developing sustainable electronics requires using materials that are either recyclable or biodegradable, without compromising on electrical performance. Here, we introduce a solution-processed biodegradable polymer blend consisting of a diketopyrrolopyrrole-based semiconducting polymer (DPP2T) and different mixtures of two biodegradable polymers, polycaprolactone (PCL) and polylactic acid (PLA). We find that controlling the ratio of components enables a reduction in semiconductor polymer loading (∼70:80% reduction) while maintaining or improving field-effect transistor performance.

In organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), the high carrier mobility of conjugated polymers (CPs) is significantly influenced by the maintenance of excellent coplanarity and aggregation, especially at the interface between the organic semiconductor and dielectric layer. Unfortunately, CPs typically exhibit poor coplanarity due to the single bond rotations between donor and acceptor units. Furthermore, there is relatively little research on the coplanarity of CPs at the interface.
