A 13-year-old boy was referred to orthopedic surgery for chronic intermittent pain and swelling of the left knee. Initial imaging was consistent with osteochondritis dissecans of the femoral condyle. Follow-up imaging demonstrated unexpected progression, with a mass extending into the notch, replacing the anterior cruciate ligament, and eroding the femoral and tibial condyles.

Although the sternoclavicular joint shares structural similarities with the knee and hip joints as a diarthrodial joint, its biomechanics differ significantly due to its non-weight-bearing nature. Nevertheless, it is subject to considerable loading, leading to increased susceptibility to osteoarthritis, a prevalent condition characterized by the degeneration of the joint's articular surfaces and fibrocartilaginous intra-articular disc. The osteoarthritic degeneration of the fibrocartilaginous and cartilaginous surfaces of the sternoclavicular joint has been investigated, considering multiple factors.

Intra-articular Synovial Ganglion of the Wrist.

J Hand Surg Glob Online

November 2024

Traumatólogo Equipo de Mano, Clínica Universidad de los Andes, Santiago, Chile.

Synovial ganglions, common soft tissue tumors of the hand and wrist, typically occur in the dorsal and volar aspects of the wrist, but intra-articular cases are rare. We present a case of a 27-year-old equestrian with persistent left wrist pain who was diagnosed with an intra-articular radiocarpal synovial ganglion after failed conservative management. Arthroscopic resection led to complete resolution of symptoms and functional recovery.

Aims: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic joint disorder marked by cartilage breakdown, bone alterations, and inflammation, leading to significant pain and disability. Current therapeutic strategies, ranging from lifestyle interventions to pharmacological and surgical treatments, offer limited efficacy and are often accompanied by side effects. This study investigates the potential of Polydioxanone (PDO), a biocompatible synthetic polymer, as a novel intra-articular (IA) viscosupplement in OA.

Osteoid Osteoma (OO) is a common primary bone tumor that often presents with night pain in younger orthopedic patients. Although typically extra-articular, intra-articular presentations may be difficult to diagnose. While magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides excellent detailed imaging of the articular surface, it has been reported to lead to occasional misdiagnosis given limitations in spatial resolution, particularly for smaller lesions.
